Slow Jam of the Day: "Oh Honey" by Delegation

On Friday, I bought one of the "Smooth Grooves" compilations so I could get "Slow Dancin" by Chaka Khan and Rick James. As I was checking out the other songs on the CD, I came across a slow jam I had completely forgotten about...."Oh Honey" by Delegation. This was one of my favorite slow jams.

Anybody into this one?

Yeaaaaah, I love this song nod

When I get lost,
feel I’ve been crossed,
She will be my salvation

When I feel low,
I’ve nowhere to go,
She’ll be my inspiration

[b]I used to have this 45. It was a great record.
You know when I listen to a song like this, I immediately notice the difference in the lyrics back then and the lyrics of today. Songwriters used to work to make the feelings they convey concise and all encompassing. Now, songs tend to be overly descriptive and deal with specific instances rather than whole ideas. "When my poor heart is breaking apart, she'll put it back together" and "When she arrives and stands by my side; makes me so proud to know her" are simple yet concise lines that convey a complete idea. It seems like most of the younger songwriters of today would rather take the long route to say the same thing IF they even say something like this. Nowadays R&B is full of apologies for wrongdoings rather than professions of love, unity and faithfulness.

Maybe it's the very fact that they are young.
They probably have no true concept of long-term love, let alone how to express it accurately.

GOOD POINT, TA!!! Most of our R&B heroes were grown folk; now its like American Idol - you can't be over 25.

I love that song. It gets lots of airplay in the Bay Area. Even though I don't listen to the radio regularly, somehow I'm always hearing the ending of the song, and that makes me mad. I want to hear it in it's entirety.

Fave lines:
Now I just like to thank you baby
For giving me a brand new start
I was going down, you saved me
When you let me in
Your loving heart, yeah
"Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!
"It's just my imagination, once again running away with me."

That Smooth Grooves series are some of the best r&b compilations ever compiled. I especially love volumes 3-10. They have lots of rare trax on them.

Yeah, those compilations are AMAZING!! So many of the songs are rare and hard to find, such as...

"Magic Man" by Robert Winters and Fall
"Try Again" by Champaign
"You and Me" by Rockie Robbins

I just wish they would continue this series, and keep releasing new volumes.

I don't think I've heard "You and Me". If it's anything like "I Believe In Love", then it's a great slow jam.

Those are great compilations though. I have a few of the earlier ones.

"You and Me" by Rockie Robbins is a midtempo jam from 1980...

You and me....together,forever
you and me...just us two
You and me...belong together
sharing everything that we do

you get me,I get you
I'll do what you want me to
baby we can make it right

We'll be together forever (together forever),you and me

music I'm sure you've heard it before, you just don't remember it
