Janet to re-release Rhythm Nation with bonus DVD! From miss-janet.com...
"CDnow.com and Amazon.com report that Janet's Rhythm Nation album will be re-released as a CD/DVD, including the album and the Rhythm Nation Video Compilation in one package, on October 22, 2002" There is no information on whether this will include bonus features or different packaging.

It would be cool if more albums were released like this -- album + videos. Hopefully this will become a trend that leads to better things.

She should include the Rhythm Nation short film too. Now that would make it really worthy of re-release.

If it's going to be a video compilation, I'd hope they'd include the whole short film which includes many of the videos in the storyline. This is one of the reasons why I'd like to see Prince become a big commercial success once again -- maybe then we'd see some great DVD Prince compilations. 'would be cool.

If Peter Gabriel was so prolific, where has he been since 1993?
Anyway, aren't all of the videos from Rhythm Nation on the Design of a Decade video DVD?

I love the 'Rhythm Nation' album.Jam and Lewis' production on this CD kicks ass! There really isn't a bad song anywhere on this album...the title track,"Love Will Never Do (Without You)","Black Cat","Livin In A World (They Didn't Make)","Miss You Much","State Of The World" are all top-notch songs.

agreed...but, what does it for me...what puts this above the top..and this might sound silly but, Herb Alberts contribution on Love Will Never Do and Someday is Tonight.. something about her voice and his trumpet playing that belong together...its a shame they havent worked together since...i get all excited at the halfway point to here his horn blow..and then excited again to hear it at the end...many o times i listened to the whole thang just to hear those two parts...go figure..LOL

TRON said: Harlepolis, where did you hear she's doing techno/dance? If this is true, it'll just be another in a long line of times she's directly ripped off Madonna. I know Madonna sets the standards but Janet is patterning her career after her at this point. Yawn.
wow, you really feel that way? thats interesting.. actually, there was a jimmy jam interview posted here a couple weeks ago where he commented that janet's new sound was more laid back and jazzed (ala Thats The Way Love Goes)..he did however say that the direction of an album can change at the drop of a dime, but that at this time..thats the direction. funny maddy fans can complain about the percieved *bitting* off of maddy, yet Madonna's entire career has been bitting the musical styles and images of other artist... veddy interesting

I only see her following Madonna's footsteps with "janet." and "Design of a Decade." "The Velvet Rope" isn't quite like anything Madonna did. "All for You" indeed is a return to an upbeat outlook (to some degree), but "Music" carries a somber mood throughout much of the record.

Recording began for RN before LAP was released. you don't think it changed the tone of what she was doing part-way through? Velvet Rope isn't all that different than what Madonna had done. lots of adult-contemporary r&b, which is what Bedtime Stories was. with a little bit of progressive stuff thrown in (Bedtime Story v. Empty or Sanctuary v. Anything). Music -- 5 out of the 10 tracks carry an upbeat sound. Janet's also contains about the same ratio of happy v. sad songs. but the overall impression of the era is more care-free. hell, the woman's (janet's) dancers were kicked out of rehearsals for Madonna's Drowned World tour because she didn't want them ripping her off.

I heard that Janet is back in the studio with Jam and Lewis,so I doubt that she will be changing her sound this time around. If she was gonna do a "techno/dance"-type album, she should be working with different producers since Jam and Lewis mainly focus on R&B. As for Janet copying Madonna,I couldn't agree more.Notice how Janet all of a sudden "got nasty" in 1993 after Madonna's 'Erotica/Sex' phase. On her 'Velvet Rope' album,Janet wrote a few bisexual-themed lyrics, which is the same thing Maddy did on 'Erotica'.

1986 -- Madonna reappears with a sleek new look, loosing the chubbiness and pot belly.
1986 -- Janet gets the fat sucked out of her ass and face
