Morris Day and the Time show cut short!!! I made the 4 hour trek to Sacramento CA for the Summer Soul Jam starring Morris Day and the Time. Others on the bill were Midnight Star, Barkays/The Dazz Band, Sister Sledge, and Shannon. The venue/radio station promoters cut the show before the encore for The Time!!! Which meant no Jungle Love!!! This was my first time seeing the Time live. It was like going to a Prince show and not hearing Purple Rain!!! The crowd left bitter, Morris Day and the Time were great! And Midnight Star got the whole crowd funky early! The Bar-Kays were good but too long. Sister Sledge and Shannon need to rethink what they are doing on stage anymore. Both sang to background vocals...Shannon didn't even sing the words to Let the Music Play...just the adlibs!
I guess that area has a curfew law and the time allowed had past already. Next time they should plan accordingly and not let the lesser groups have so much stage time. They could have completed the whole show. Think twice before attending any show at Raley Field in Sacramento.

My rule of thumb is to avoid fest lineups with with more than 3 mediocre acts; no matter how good the headliner is. test

Think twice before attending any show at Raley Field in Sacramento. Don't be too quick to blame the venue. Most venues are rental facilities that rent the building to promoters for a certain time period. A lot of these promoters are shady and don't tell the venue that they have booked so many acts that would go over their time period. They think that once the show starts and the crowd gets in, that the venue will have no other choice than to just let them use the building for how ever long they want to. No, it don't work that way. These venues will either charge the promoter more (the stage unions, which are a separate cost, will really charge them more) or they will shut the show down. I betcha Raley Field was totally innocent and may have been conned by some shady promoter. Some shady promoters are already in their car and gone from the venue before the show is even over. They are strictly behind the scenes so if something goes wrong with the show, the first people the audience usually blame is the musical act or the venue because they don't know how things went down. . . The BarKays rocks! They can never perform to long. These cats are
simply funk legends. They should have a funk hall of fame with the barkays being the face of it. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint
