Santana's recently released concert DVDs Went shopping over the weekend and picked up some cool Santana concert DVDs that were released recently:
*HYMNS FOR PEACE--LIVE AT MONTREUX 2004---Carlos Santana has been a frequent visitor to the Montreux Festival. On July 15,2004,he took to the stage accompanied by a stunning line-up of guests to perform a spectacular and historic concert of songs about peace and understanding that was called "Hymns For Peace".Joining the regular Santana Band were Chick Corea,Herbie Hancock,Wayne Shorter,Ravi Coltrane and Idrissa Diop with further guest appearances through the night from Angelique Kidjo,Barbara Morrison,Patti Austin,Sylver Sharp,Steve Winwood and Nile Rodgers.2-disc set. *Santana and Wayne Shorter---Live at the 1988 Montreux Jazz Festival---It almost began as a lark when Carlos Santana encountered his longtime friend and hero Wayne Shorter on the concert trail in Atlanta,GA in 1987.Carlos said "Let's start a rumor that we're putting a band together".Wayne's eyes got bigger and brighter as he smiled and then responded "Yeah,Carlos, let's start a rumor".a few months later the Carlos Santana/Wayne Shorter Band began a 26-concert tour throughout the U.S. and Europe. The band also featured Patrice Rushen on keyboards. There are plans to release this performance on CD. *Carlos Santana presents Blues At Montreux 2004---The blues has always been a vital component of Carlos Santana's music. On a magical night at the Montreux Festival in July 2004,he was given the opportunity to present and to perform with three of his favorite bluesmen: Buddy Guy,Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown and Bobby Parker. Each artist plays a full-length concert and is joined during their set by Carlos and other special guests including Nile Rodgers and Barbara Morrison.3-disc set.

One thing I really admire about Carlos is that he gives his fans alot to collect In addition to these recently released DVDs,there are several other Santana Live DVDs on the market, and several live albums too.We often complain when our favorite artists don't release the stuff that we want to see and hear, but Santana has never been stingy with his fans.Prince....are you listening?

Yeah, Santana is a very gracious cat. Always have been. I have some footage of him live, but what's a trip to me is that I've never seen Carlos live in person. A shame really, being that he's one of my favorite guitarists and a major influence. Never even recall Carlos being in an up and coming event. Strange. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
nammie "What BGZ says I believe. I have the biggest crush on him." http://ccoshea19.googlepa...ssanctuary http://ccoshea19.googlepages.com

The only concert I'm interested in is the 1969 at the Filmore, have you seen that? I want to see him as a kid and see the crowd's reaction, the cd is just so damn good.

I have the CD of that show....is there footage of it floating around somewhere? I'd like to see some of his mid-70s performances....from the 'Lotus' era.

Looks like some good stuff.
I've seen Santana twice. Once with the original band in the 60s at the legendary Fillmore East. The James Gang (w/Joe walsh) was the opening act The second time was here in the 80s at The Wiltern. The Wiltern gig combined players from various band eras. Chester Thompson & Tom Coster on keys, Graham Lear on drums, Alphonso Johnson on bass. Buddy Miles even showed up to play Them Changes on guitar. The weirdest thing was Nu Shooz as the opening act. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

One of the best Santana shows I saw was in 1995.This was several years before his 'Supernatural' comeback, and the show was very experimental and "less pop" than his post-Supernatural concerts. He spent the first two hours stretching out, playing lots of jazzy stuff, totally ignoring his most commercial hits. Some audience members got impatient and Carlos replied "Relax...we have plenty of time...we'll get to the hits later on" Of course,he kept his word: the show ended with crowd-pleasing stuff like "Oye Como Va","Black Magic Woman",etc. But it was nice seeing him explore his jazzier, more experimental side.

It probably exists on boots, but nothing from that era has been officially released.Carlos recently did an Internet chat session with fans and someone asked about live footage from the 70s.Carlos simply said "Have you checked out the Live At Montreux '88 DVD with Wayne Shorter?" That seems to be the "oldest" concert that's available on DVD.
