TOTO @ The Canyon Saw the current edition of TOTO ...
...at The Canyon in Agoura Hills. From left to right Leland Sklar - Bass (subbing for injured, and last of the Porcaro brothers, Mike Porcaro) Recorded and/or toured with Phil Collins, Billy Cobham, Rod Stewart, Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor, Hall & Oates, Jackson Browne, Tommy Bolin, David Bowie, Ray Charles, BB King, The Doors, Peter Frampton, Aaron Neville, Lyle Lovett, etc. Tony Spinner - Guitar & vocals Recorded and/or toured with Paul Gilbert & Pat Travers along with a 3 album solo career - The Tony Spinner Band. Greg Phillinganes - Keyboards & vocals His discography is too extensive to list. Steve Lukather - Guitar & vocals (original member) Another one whose discography is too extensive to list. You can check it out here: http://www.toto99.com/dis...isco.shtml Simon Phillips - Drums (replacing Jeff Porcaro who died in '92) Again, an extensive discograph that can be seen here: http://www.toto99.com/dis...isco.shtml Bobby Kimball - Vocals (original member) Discography: http://www.toto99.com/dis...isco.shtml David Paich & Steve Porcaro (original keyboardists) continue to contribute to the band in various ways (writing & recording) but Steve no longer performs with the group and David will do the occasional L.A. area gig. The show included a number of performances by former TOTO vocalist Joe Williams (son of composer John Williams) and a surprise appearance by Steve's son Trevor on guitar. It became obvious a few songs into the set that these guys are operating as an ongoing concern and not a nostalgia band. If you are the type that expects a "Greatest Hits" type show, then you would have probably been disappointed. Their set consisted of songs from their latest album... 
...Falling in Between, along with selected tunes from post-Toto IV albums. The only mega-hits included were Hold The Line, Rosanna (which featured a well arranged jazzy intro/1st verse) and Africa. My main concern with any band I see is that whatever they decide to perform, they do it well. TOTO did that and had a good time on stage in the process. From left to right... 
...Tony Spinner, Bobby Kimball, Steve Lukather, Greg Phillinganes, Leland Sklar, Simon Phillips (well, his drum kit anyway), This is a rockier TOTO but also a group of seasoned professionals that still understand that melody matters. tA  Tribal Disorder

there is one of those groups i loved ... back in the day ...
didnt know they were still touring ... too cool . would love to check that out ... i remember "HYDRA", "99" ... from that album and on ... "hold the line" ... and then of course the "africa" album ... too cool .  thanks. | |

Georgey Porgey ..One of my Favs from this band ....And I love Greg Phillinganes. He toured with Michael Jackson and is on some of his albums .....good memories [Edited 6/11/07 13:08pm] Youth is wasted on the young ..... | |

Greg Phillinganes? DAMN, this guy has to be DAAAAAMMMMMNNNN Good. He's been steadily working with hundreds of artists and groups for over thirty years and has never had his own solo success - I could be totally wrong, please correct me! !! -

and he still is doing the work. With that much time under his belt, he must be a killer keyboardist. He's a musician's musician. Just to single out one album, he along with the original members of TOTO (Steve Lukather, David Paich, Jeff & Steve Porcaro) are all over Thriller. Greg had at least 2 solo albums out. But why bother with the hassle and headache of a solo career if you can make a fine living, retain some anonymity and lead a relatively normal life being a session cat. tA Tribal Disorder
