Although these aren't the greatest songs of all time, one thing I do like about this chart is the diversity/variety. You've got new artists, older artists, legends, pop, rock, soul. Is anyone older than 25 even in the top 40 today?
Nowadays all the songs just seem like the same one played over and over with slight variation. I really can't tell some of these acts apart in sound or appearance. There's no room for individuality, which is what this chart reflects. Btw - Don't Disturb this Groove will always be my jam! perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

ok wtf? 1987 was one of the best years ever!!! sure I may not like all the songs on those charts but the ones that made it high have stood the test of time! the stuff by Heart, and all the madonna, janet, michael, george michael, whitney, prince, steve winwood, inxs and so on kicked butt! I think things started going a little downhill in 1988 and most of the good songs were from 1987 cd's continuing to be released, but then stuff picked up in 1989

One of the best ever, huh? I listened to a lot of radio at that time, but I wouldn't it consider it great, especially the Heart tunes. Compare those to their 70s output, and they're lacking.

maybe i'm biased cause i love the 80's though i also think the 70's are cool, but what about love & alone are songs I'd take over their other material. I need to hear more 70's heart to make a conclusion though

around this time, madonna was the girl I wanted to be. Believe it or not,in 1987 I still wasn't truly a Madonna fan yet I liked a few songs ("Live To Tell" caught my attention a year earlier),but it was the 'Like A Prayer' album, released a few years later, that really made me a diehard fan.

I had a lot of her music videos on tape at that point and heard the true blue cassette at my cousin's house all the time

1987 was a decent year for pop music...certainly better than 1988 and 1989.At least Prince was kickin' ass with 'SOTT'.
