I get the same.
In high school my friend called me weird because I had a Prince CD, yet he wanted to borrow my Speakerboxxx/Love Below.
He then called me gay because he found Bad in my CD holder.

He then called me gay because he found Bad in my CD holder.

That would've DEFINITELY ended a friendship.
One of my former friends called me stupid because I had some Prince and MJ CDs in my CD wallet. I said "really?", snatched his out of his hand and looked"Hmmmm, Lil Wayne, Jay Z, Nelly, Lil Jon, Eminem, 50 Cent.....well you're a fucking retard" gave it back to him and said "now who's the bitch"

Most of my friends these days have diverse taste in music. Could you imagine a bunch of 18 and 19 year olds who regularly listen to Prince, Terence Trent Darby, George Michael, MJ, and others? That's us lol

none of my friends like
to ride with me anywhere
because of my taste in music
they're always like
"what the hell is this?"
and they'd rather hear snap music
or top 10 tunes...

I be listening to anything from
Mary J. Blige to Zeppelin to Cam'ron
to Funkadelic, to Joni, to A Taste Of Honey
mostly ballads & stuff
one time I took my sister
to the grocery store
and I was listening to Lauryn's Unplugged
she's all "you tryin to depress a bitch"
LOL

I love blowing their minds LOL

Same here - I like music that's dark, loud, angry & depressing(AIC, Soundgarden, Sevendust, Godsmack, Disturbed, along with classic R&B, Funk and old skool rap). I put on "Them Bones" and they're like, "You're not white, why are you listening to this sh!t for?"

I remember my auntie chocking on hot steaming coffee when she heard somebody screaming "IIIII'l buy U clothing, I'll buy U fancy cars" on the car speakers(Something In The Water/Does Not Compute).

And the volume was turned ON a moment before that for that purpose evillol

Whats funnier is, the white folks in my workplace consider Funk music, "jungle music" so you see, its a no-win situation after all disbelief lol

Some friends think my taste in music is a little off. Most respect it and have similar, diverse tastes so it's great to have those friends who do understand and just love music without association to labels.

I know one friend, who is hardcore into hip-hop had to explain herself to a few of her friends as to why she was at the John Mayer concert last week and has "Waiting on the World To Change" as the daytime ringtone. lol I hope she will not need to explain The Police if any of them call on Wednesday. She tends to call me "old school" because when we used to work together that's what I was playing alot of the times when she came in my office. Over the years, well within the last year she's became more comfortable in revealing white artists that she liked and appreciated musically to me. All I say is 'ok," almost like listening to confession or something.

Another friend who I pick up from work sometimes has to endure the shuffle from my Ipod which gives a nice hodgepodge of everything from rock to disco to R&B and gospel. As long as the song rings a bell, then it's fine. If she does not recognize the song and if she figures the artist is not black will ask "Is this white people music"? Dang, why does it matter? Just listen for a minute.

Both of those friends are Geminis and I'm a Leo so I get it twice as much from them. lol

peoplea round me call everythign old 'so gay' or crap their parents like, so I don't always play oldies around people, usually it's just the radio, or my CD of today's songs that I can tolerate, I take breaks in between listening to oldies though it's what I listen to for the most part. I was blasting some duran duran, peter gabriel, prince, steve winwood, phil collins, diana ross, donna summer in the car today, knowing all the words and felt 10 or 20 years older than I am lmaooo

sometimes i'll introduce people to songs, like if they're listening to biggie and I can see it on their msn, I'll send them between the sheets isley brothers or juicy fruit-mary jane girls to show them where it originally came from
