Wow, her label is really trying to sell her to urban radio. The album is selling great already so there isn't really a need for this. I haven't actually heard the Jay-Z part yet though so I can't comment on the end product.

I don't get the fuss over amy winehouse. She sings like a drunk who
just came out of rehab. It's like she is trying to pull off sounding like 60's
girl groups over modern beats. Her last name fits the way she sounds.
Sorry just don't care for her.

I dig a lot of Jigga´s raps ( not everything but a lot...some albums I can´t stand, some albums I love ) but what I don´t like, Jigga or not, is when some totally superfluous raps get added or tacked on to an already complete song.

I mean, it´s not that I think that Amy Winehouse is great or anything but did that song really need Jigga´s rapping ?
It´s cool that he never has to write his lyrics down but on the other hand it also means that his lyrics are not necessarily always the most thought out lyrics.
That whole "add a few rap lines to a pop or RnB song" method is just as played out as gazillions of "featuring" artists on an album.

i don't know why they're pushing her on urban when modern rock seems to be embracing her with more enthusiasm. i mean, hell, market her to both, but to push her as an "urban" artist first and foremost seems like a bad idea to me.

exactly and i don't know what all the hype is about that chick. Yeah she has a different sound and all, but other than that, i've listened to her album, and I kept skipping throughout the whole damn thing. I could only bare to listen to 3 of the songs in its entirety. I saw her performance on the MTV Movie awards the other night and it wasn't that spectacular really. I mean was she drunk like she usually is when she performs? She was very still, no hand movement, no swaying, nothing. She was just there. And no i wasn't expecting her to be shaking her ass all over the place, we already have Beyonce doing way too much of that already...but damn, she could have done something else besides stand there without smiling, and acting like she was bored to death with her own damn performance.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Even though I liked the song when it first came out, i'm over it. Amy is a total skank. She reminds me (looks-wise) of Peaches.

Slighty o/t: I can get not being into her music, but I've heard a lot of folks here and elsewhere trashing her for her behaviour (drinking). How many established artists -how many male artist's -have made a career of being professional drunks and addicts with nary a finger-wag at their excesses? People seem so utterly shocked and bowled over that this Winehouse chick drinks, and could likely drink them under a table. What's the deal? Are these people just so used to women who get completely sloshed off one or two girly drinks or a bottleneck of wine that a woman who drinks like a guy is worthy of being stared at and picked at like an act in a freak show?

I'm not trying to condone her, from what I understand, excessive alcohol consumption. But fucking seriously, guys. Talent issues aside, if Keith Richards is hailed as a hero for living this long with those habits of his, why is it cool to rag on Amy Winehouse?

I have to admit, I liked her singing at first, and used to actually listen to some of her tracks, but if you listen to an entire album of her singing for about a half hour, it starts to sound depressing. Her sound is not that unique at all. She has a of the Supremes, Smokey Robinson and the Motown sound all wrapped up basically.. If you listen to some of her tracks, there's one that starts off like the Supremes song "Baby Love" and another one that sound just like one of Smokey's tunes. She basically borrowed the Motown sound. She has the voice of a 50s-60s white songstress named Peggy Lee, and the fact that she is a white woman with a black sound, makes her unique to the music industry. I don't see her lasting that long, because her voice sounds the same all through her album. When I saw her perform on MTV because I was curious about all the hoopla about her, I was surprised. She was very still, looks very anorexic, no emotion or anything..I don't know, it was sort of weird. She'll be popular for a little while, but I don't see it long lasting too long.

C'mon now you cannot compare Keith Richards with Amy Winehouse
Keith Richard's came from of an age of drugs, for him its expected...
and he also didn't write songs like "They tried to make me go to rehab but I said 'no, no, no'" (which actually got her The Ivor Novello Awards, most likely because she was the only credible british artist at the time, which is fucking sasd for the brits)
If you're gonna compare Winehouse to somebody, use a contemporary
say...
Ryan Adams

Famous for wine guzzling, insulting the fuck out of toby Keith, and throwing a fan who yelled Summer Of 69,A Bryan Adams song, out of a concert.
He's sober now, but back when he use to drink the media basically slammed him because of his wino ways. Despite being a prolific song writer, He was just an asshole and a drunk to boot. Winehouse is a Bitch & a Drunk, not a prolific song writer, but her producers are quite prolific, to a certain extent.
The only reason Adams' is popular is because he has some formidable talent.
Which is actually shinning brighter now that he's Sober. (Easy tiger) Winehouse, However, is just another voice among the sea of female vocalist.
She does give us some nostalgia for Lauren Hill. But she can only ride that train for so long. I hope she lasts (and releases somecredible work), but it doesn't bode well for her.
She does have Monsteer producers backing her though, Salaam Remi, and Mark Ronson are quite amazing. I'd liked to see how she do stripped from them though.
That's when i'll see her real talent.

i think they're marketing her as the it flavor of the moment in the usa, and of course it won't last. but she had a career before the us in different markets and she'll have one after. but you know show biz, you have to strike while the iron is hot. so the suits have to milk her for all they can get...

Her style and her voice is what's attracting millions to her. She does look like a skank ho and she's a drunk too, but her music rocks!

I'm sure her record company made her do this with Jay. I guess it will give her some cred in the hip/hop world rolleyes

He liked the track and asked if he could add a rap and being that when she was asked whom she like to work with it was a list of rappers i'm guessing she didn't have a problem with it

street cred and a connection to a younger, hipper audience? cynical, i know, but that's usually why he starts talking up younger performers.

Amy is great. Its so typical of orgers to whine (no pun intended) and complain about those artists getting recognition,

If she wasn't selling, there'd be hundreds of posts about her not getting the love she deserves...
