This was an excellent show. It was great 2 c Don "threaten" Cheryl and Randy. The funniest part of all was when Don announced Cheryl received a gift package of Johnson products. I hope that it was makeup. I can't see Cheryl using Afro Sheen or Ultra Sheen products. lol

I'm looking forward to this week's Minnie Riperton tribute, it should be interesting.

On the June 9th episode we get Chic & High Energy btw, really looking forward to that one as well.

Yessuh, I finally caught me another Classic Soul Train episode, and this one, indeed was very good. The only one I know who enjoyed this episode more than me was my mama yall lol This was like around her era of music, so ya know she was groovin and singin along to every track especially that Gino Vannelli "I Just Wanna Stop." I never heard that second Gloria Gaynor track "Anybody Wanna Party" till that episode; that one was jammin! And they was straight-up looooose when that Jacksons track came up on the Soul Train Line!

This episode originally aired on March 1,1980 lol This means that Chic will probably perform "Rebels Are We".

I swear, that song is THE JAM!! headbang It's a whole lot funkier than "I Will Survive",which is 100% disco. It was the follow-up single, but "I Will Survive" got all the attention and became her signature hit.I definitely prefer "Anybody Wanna Party".The lyrics totally capture the excitement and the "vibe" of the disco era!!

This episode of "Soul Train" was absolutely great. This was just the type of late 70s disco episode I had been waiting to see. Thanks Don! Keep the late 70s episodes like that and the years 1980, 1981, and 1982 coming.

It was great to hear the Asian girl speak, although she didn't say much. I had always wondered what her voice sounded like though.

I haven't heard that song from Gary's Gang in ages and when I heard it, my ass instantly started moving in my seat. After the episode was over, I had to replay it again and relieve my ass from it's confinement on the couch. I drank me a 12 pack later that night and replayed that episode over and over. There was some serious ass shakin' last Saturday night. lol

I swear Don must be reading my mind or my posts. I've been hoping they would play an episode from the early part of the year 1980 in the middle of the transition between disco and funk. When disco died and rock/new wave took over pop radio, this was around the time I made my transition from pop to R&B radio. Those episodes from that year have some great memories.

Don, if you are reading this, play that episode with Shalamar doing "The Second Time Around" and my alltime favorite Shalamar ass-shaker...."Right Dead In The Socket". lol

I absolutely love "Anybody Wanna Party". I must have played that section of the show over and over and shook ass until I was out of breath. Even Don himself said he felt himself not being able to stand still while she performed that song. lol

The dude in the leotard w/ the braids is named Bobcat. He was real popular on the show for a while.

The episode with Gary's Gang was aired not too long ago. That was a cool song. Looking foward to the Chic epsiode. Still waiting on Bootsy.

To me, the problem with the latter 70's episodes are that they aren't as "funky" as the earlier ones...this is mainly due to a change in musical style at the time. In the 71-75 era (my favorite) there were songs like "I'll Take You There" and "Make It Funky". People did the Popeye, Breakdown, Crakerjack, the Mechanical Man, etc. And of course, Don Campbell soon had everyone trying to Lock.
"
But the late 70's had music like "Get Up & Boogie" and all the Donna Summer stuff. The dancing was a lot lamer...in the episode you are talking about, I saw men dancing and prancing so effeminately....the mark of a paid professional dancer. When I tune into ST, I prefer to see people having fun, Campbellocking and doing the Which-a-Way...not paid pros and dudes performing ballet moves. Even the theme wasn't as cool. But, that's just my opinion, don't mean to offend anyone. I understand people who enjoyed the type of style of the Disco era might prefer those episodes of ST.

The early 70s episodes are my least favorite years....(except for the horrible pop filled late 80s and shit hop infested 90s)....because a lot of the music is less dance oriented and more bluesy oriented.

I know what you mean about the dancers on the show doing their dances in the late 70s, some of them look like they are dancing ballet steps and I never have liked couple-dancing. My favorites are the early 80s. The music of the early 80s was funky but funk had been modernized and the tempo speeded up due to the influence of disco which had dominated earlier. Most of the dancers had stopped all that ballet looking shit and started throwing down again, especially in 1980 and 1981. By 1982 or 1983 though, the music was great, but a lot of the dancers, especially the women, were stiff and rhthmless coming down the line. They were more concerned with being models than shaking ass. lol

I must admit, though, Iwould rather see the dancers couple dance down the isles
