Sheila Walsh's New CD

I just finished listening to Sheila Walsh's new CD - FIND YOUR WINGS. I really like the first track "Everlasting God". It's real power-pop and reminds me (style-wise) of Kelly Clarkson's best singles.

I really love the track "Song Of Bernadette" which was written by Leonard Cohen and Jennifer Warnes. I was unfamiliar with the track until hearing it for the first time on Sheila's CD. What a beautiful song and Sheila's vocal performance is really fantastic and heart-felt to match.

I was a bit surprised to hear Sheila tackle, dare i say 'country-folk' on her version of Iris Dement's "When My Mornin' Comes Around". It is probably my least favorite track on the CD, though I do appreciate the artistry that is Iris Dement and Sheila for trying different musical styles.

Finally there is Sheila's version of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow". What can I say about this song? Oft covered by every singer on the planet. It is a beautiful song and when Sheila sinks her teeth into a song it becomes instantly necessary.

Overall I would give Sheila Walsh - FIND YOUR WINGS a grade B. It's a bit all over the place style-wise but Chris Harris' production ties it together and it does sound cohesive. Long time fans will not be disappointed.

To self: "Nobody knows who Sheila Walsh is on this board. I guess nobody here is into Christian music. Sheila is a CCM pioneer. Sheila brought her brand of UK new wave to the masses in the early 80's. After an abscence from music for a large part of the 90's, she returned with her successful CD - HOPE in 1998 followed by BLUE WATERS in 2000. Her musical style has changed a lot over the years to include Celtic-pop, worship-music and AC. She is one of the finest vocalists in the business".

Her Grammy-nominated album from 1983 - WAR OF LOVE. A great 80's new wave/pop CD.

Another classic 80's new wave/pop CD from Sheila in 1985. DON'T HIDE YOUR HEART. Sheila was nominated for a Grammy for this album was well. I don't really care for her duet with Cliff Richard though I LOVE the track "Not Guilty" to the max (80's jargon).

Another Grammy-nomination Sheila lost to Amy Grant was for 1986's SHADOWLANDS. "Sand In The Hand" is one of my fave tracks.
