FACTS PLEASE: WHO'S THE BEST/BIGGEST SELLING..

female group (not band) lol of all time? these 4 always come up. i heard the other day it was TLC; then today it's Destiny's Child, etc....
so can someone clear it up for me? not that i care, but would like to know.
global sales figures would be best if you can post them. i'm just not sure which site would be most acurate.

thanks biggrin

Destiny's Child are the best selling female group of all-time. They've sold around 100 million records.

Supremes are the biggest selling...they just are not certified as such. Selling millions of copies of one single was the norm for them.

Someone seriously needs to break down those DC sales because 100m is absolutely ridiculous. You can easily understand Spice Girls doing 50m because they had about 35m from their first 2 albums alone, so add on singles sales and it's easy. But 100m for Destiny's Child? hmmm

Believable.

DC put out what 8 Albums during that span, plus countless singles.

8 albums? Yeah, if you include their very low selling first and last albums, the low selling #1s, the low selling Christmas and Remix albums. And another EP called Love: Destiny which I just looked up and had never heard of before. I doubt it was even released worldwide.

As far as DC hit singles they had about 5 or 6 really big hits, but none that can be classed on the scale of all time big sellers, especially since singles sales in the US are practically nothing this decade.

I'm breaking it down. According to Soundscan..these are DC's US stats:

Total US Album sales for Destiny's Child: 16,648,717
Total US Single sales for Destiny's Child: 4,174,838

Album Breakdown:

Destiny's Child: 823,234
Writings On The Wall: 6,245,161
8 Days of Christmas: 673,414
This is the Remix: 277,408
Survivor: 4,315,648
Destiny Fulfilled: 3,055,354
#1's: 1,231,533

Unless they sold 80 million outside of the US..which is doubtful..then those other stats are incredibly false.

I agree.. cause there was no such thing as piracy back in the day .. ppl went out and spent all their money on the music... which they dont do today .. today everything is bootlegged ..

Thanks for those. During The Writing's On The Wall album they were much more successful in the USA and didn't really breakout into guaranteed star status until 'Independent Women' - even though the grammatical nightmare of 'Bills Bill Bills' was quite a big hit. So they only had a few years of worldwide success before splitting, and the Christmas and Remix albums did absolutely nothing worldwide.

don't care one way or the other. Cruel Summer and Venus are cool. it just seems odd for them to be on the list of all time best selling girl groups biggrin
