Actually I think "F-U-N-K" or "Dedicated to the Press" by Betty Davis owns that title, but "Superstition" is up there!

I'll have to think about that. I'm fickle in the sense that I really can't choose just one track above the rest. Hell, I can't even make a top 10 list without it being completely different just the next day.

I wouldn't go that far. "Knee Deep" or "Erotic City" would be my top picks before "Superstition". Don't get me wrong, I love the song but it is definitely not "I Wish".

You Haven't Done Nothing is funkier than Superstition IMHO.

btw, had you all heard the origins of Superstition, it was supposed to be for Jeff Beck, but Stevie liked it too much and kept it. much to the chagrin of Beck of course

Well Stevie did give it to Jeff Beck but also recorded his own version, promising not to release his version as a single. Supposedly it was Motown's decision to release his version as a single, which Stevie begged them not to do because of his promise, to which the label said "Are you crazy?"

I'm going to agree with both datdude and SirPsycho. "Maybe Your Baby" and "You Haven't Done Nothing" are both funkier songs... not that "Superstition" isn't funky, because it is.

Superstition is a nice jam. I like boogie rae woman and higher ground better.
I would say those songs are funkier than superstition.

It's jazzy funk and the template for jamiroquai's whole career - not a bad thing cool

Love this song, but I agree, it's not the funkiest (by Stevie or of all time).

I nominate James Brown's I Don't Want Nobody To Give Me Nothing or Licking Stick.

Agreed. For me, probably the funkiest tracks ever (today in Miles' Funkland anyway smile ) have to be James Brown's 'Papa's Got a Brand New Bag' full version, with Maceo blowin', and the full studio version of 'Cold Sweat', tho the 'Live at the Apollo 2' live version is also very strong. Surely these are the twin funk motherloads to which all others must bow. cool

'Superstition' is imo by far Stevie's funkiest song and true funk classic tho. Stevie's drumming, the horns and those meshing clavinets just lay it on down.
