I'll never be a Bowie
I'll never be an Eno I'll only ever be a Gary Numan from A Hit by smog. I have nothing against Gary Numan - I've liked quite a few of his songs - but I think that's quite a funny lyric. [Edited 4/22/07 13:58pm]

gary numan is indeed the shit. try to find his autobiography - it's a good read, if you can humor him through the boring parts about his flying/pilot hobby.

"Pleasure Principle" is a must-have for New Wave lovers.
Although if you like your New Wave with a hard funky groove, you can't go wrong with "I, Assassin" either. He's still a Bowie ripoff though. But then again, what New Romantic wasn't at that time? [Edited 4/24/07 12:10pm] NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

I've always been a huge Gary Numan fan, since Cars. Most of his songs are too weird for radio airplay so he was a one hit wonder in the US but his albums are incredible. I was reading the I, Assassin liner notes last night (just got that Cd in the mail to replace my old cassette tape of it) and there's a paragraph about Prince. The liner notes say that Numan's style was more like Prince than the UK funk (ABC, Spandau) that was rising in 1981/2. It also mentioned that Cars was a song Prince used to play before concerts on his early tours and that the UK sleeve of the 1999 album which was withdrawn was very similar to Numan's Replicas album cover. Has anyone seen that withdrawn 1999 cover? I'd love to see what it looks like.
Numan was also a big Prince fan and covered 1999 and U Got the Look on one of his albums in the late 80's. ~*~the glamorous life~*~
