I Love the evolution of this group From this Alps inspired trek through human fascination by machines to the eclectic Black Cherry to a New New Wave tour de force. One of the most inspired and creative duos in a very long time. Goldfrapp has my undying support and devotion 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

More questions, the wailing siren in Lovely Head and Pilots. Do you think that is the language of the machines? Of perhaps what the machines hear when we speak? 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

SupaFunkyOrgangrinderSexy said: Also, the idea I always had about the title was "felt" as fabric but HBOs take on things makes me see it as "felt" as in feel. Perhaps a bit of both. Machines that cannot feel as touch and cannot feel as emotion. Humans that can do both. Worlds colliding that can never every truly understand each other and reconcile their visions because what it is to be human is not to be a machine and vice versa. Thank you Ocean for making my very first venture into this album remarkable!
Nice dissertation. Also, notice "felt" is in the past tense. Another reference to nostalgia, or an implication that we no longer feel. True isn't it? I also love how the cover is like a clone, siamese twins, two headed monster or an inkblot. All aligned with the freak and monster theme, and dismemberment...

According to the Mixmag interview: 'Felt Mountain', their 2001 debut, came after Alison somehow encountered "a mountain made out of fuzzy felt."
So you were right the first time.

Nature with a superstructure of synthesized, artificial sounds and the brilliant dysfunction therein.
"Yeah," says Will, "we like that sort of collision of human and machine." 'Supernature' can be interpreted in many ways. It's brilliant and multi-layered and very simple and exceedingly clever--and this odd couple came up with the name in a flash, a "pure Spinal Tap moment" during a photoshoot when their management was hassling them and the deadline had long passed. "It was, 'The record company really need to know now...'"

I also truly love the idea of the mountain as the staging grounds for this collision of beings. At night, in the dark, some parts of the mountain are pure darkness, while other parts covered in snow are illuminated by the moon creating a world of beauty and light alongside the darkness. More contrarianism . [Edited 5/6/09 11:57am] 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Nice statement for the back cover. Seals everything up. Far from civilization, a spiritual return.

I like to think of it as machines trying to be human. Or crying and wailing because they're not human.
