Full Force (as a band, they should have been taken more seriously despite their image)
Kraftwerk (people love using synths & drum machines these today because of this band)

Ska was out before they came along, but they were one of the firsts to fuse it with punk.....pretty cool. I love Terry Hall's voice too. Yes, and I'm glad you mentioned them. They were influential among the British ska bands as well as the ones that would come later in the US. Also, you gotta give props to the Special AKA and their "In The Studio" album for possibly inventing Trip-Hop. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

The Replacements Donna Summer (at least when she did "I Feel Love". Though it was considered a pure disco hit, the song arrangement was a precursor to techno.)

The Replacements
How so? They were one of the biggest alternative rock bands of the 1980s. Unfortunately, they came of age during hair metal and pre-dated Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and a lot of other huge alt-rock bands of the 1990s. Those bands copies a lot of their musical style and sensibilities.
