Is this the stuff that was stored in a warehouse, and the warehouse owner seized it because the rent hadn't been paid in ages? Then he was gonna auction it or something but the family took legal action..? I don't remember exactly how it all went, maybe someone can help me out!

You got the info right. The guy in New Jersey sold the stuff to Universal Express who is gonna auction the stuff BUT Michael took legal action because they were selling his items, of course. Vaccaro threatened to "teach that boy a lesson" and that Michael didn't want to piss him off. They went to court and settled. Michael probably got the items he still cared about and settled.

The big question is: Is Janet's lawsuit still going on?

not to sound corny but this is sad. Imagine someone selling your personal letters and other intimate items like this. I too wonder why the family didn't just buy all the stuff back.

Michael took legal action and settled last week. I don't know about Janet's lawsuit though.....
They also said there was alot of bombshell items, but it's really mostly photos, awards, and old costumes. The publicity kit for Michael's half sister is interesting, though.....and maybe Michael's personal notebooks.

I honestly don't think the auction is gonna bring in alot of cash

Auction of 2,000 of Jackson's personal items slated next week

Home News Tribune Online 05/23/07

By BOB CULLINANE
GANNETT NEW JERSEY

The auction of nearly 2,000 items once belonging to pop superstar Michael Jackson and his siblings will take place next week as planned.

Jackson and Universal Express, the company that purchased the collection of Jackson family memorabilia from Asbury Park contractor Henry Vaccaro, reached a settlement to allow the auction to take place May 30 and 31 in Las Vegas.

Jackson, who lost the memorabilia to Vaccaro during a U.S. Bankruptcy Court sale in 2002, has repeatedly challenged the ownership of the items, which include gold records, stage costumes and personal effects of Michael and several family members.

Two weeks ago, the controversial pop star filed a motion to seek a restraining order to prevent the auction by Universal Express.

But hours before the motion was to be heard in a Las Vegas court Friday, the settlement was reached, according to Vaccaro and Universal Express.

Vaccaro, who traveled to Las Vegas last week to testify, said the terms of the settlement are confidential, but include the return to Jackson of about a dozen items from the collection.

In exchange, Jackson drops all claim to the items and confirms the collection is authentic
, Vaccaro said.

In 1983, a failed business partnership involving a guitar-manufacturing company in Asbury Park led Vaccaro to sue the Jackson family. Vaccaro eventually won a $1.4 million judgment against the Jacksons, which later swelled to $1.7 million with interest.

During the time Vaccaro was pursuing the debt, he uncovered a warehouse full of Jackson family memorabilia, which he seized by court order.

But several Jackson family members then sought bankruptcy protection, and the memorabilia was placed in the custody of a court-appointed trustee.

hmmm Because they don't have the money to do so? It's the only logical explanation. After all, Vacarro seized the stuff because the Jacksons owed him money and he hadn't been able to collect. Not to mention the bankruptcies. shrug

I pretty sure they have/had enough to buy the items back.

Janet and Michael alone could have got the items back.

Michael helped produce LaToya's debut album back in 1980 and wrote the song "Night Time Lover" for the album(Janet also wrote for the album and it's b-sides)

Here is what the contract says:

date : July 11, 1980

I Michael Jackson agree to the following:

1. If the single Nite Time Lover reaches the top ten I will record two songs on her [La Toya's] next album.

2. If the single reaches the top five, I Michael Jackson will record and produce one (1) song on her next album.

3. If the single Nite Time Lover reaches the number one (1) spot I will not produce her unless I decide to later.

We are speaking of the Pop Charts only in Billboard.

Very Truly Yours,

Michael Jackson

Consulted and agreed to
by LaToya Jackson

Funny thing is if you listen to the song, you get the conclusion he knew the project was gonna flop lol

I'm confused. It says Michael gets back some items then says he'll drop all claims to the items. Can someone explain this to me? sad
