Amerie - "Take Control"

Does anyone know why this video was released five months ago in Europe and her album still hasn't been released here? She had probably the biggest song of the year in 2005 with "1 Thing"--which i put on repeat for months--so I don't understand why there hasn't been an American release. The album is only available as an import.confused

For anyone interested, her production tends to be very 80s new wave/dance which I love and sets her apart from pretty much every R & B girl I can think of, although her voice is very similar to Beyonce's.

No, although her management heard it and liked it.

There is a chance the cd could come out here in Mid -Late July but honestly dont hold your breath. Ive already invested in the import and remixes, this CD is amazing, just a really fresh vibe of 80's RB and POP somewhat, Amerie's style is very retro, its really always been, but wasnt brought out till her second CD. Right now she is touring the UK and Japan supporting this cd and its doing quite nicely, she is developing quite a UK following and i hear she is thinking of moving there full time.

Yeah, I like the new album alot. It's much better than the last one, which only had a couple songs I loved.

The video got played here for about a week on BET and i heard that MTV ran it, but im sure they showed it at 4am once or twice. The only place i got to see the video outside of You Tube was the IMF station which plays artists from all over the world, and it plays vids 24/7 with no VJ's. The funny thing is when they showed the video and it listed the credits at the bottom, it listed Amerie as being a UK artist.

Amerie needs to be huge already. I love Take Control and she's one of the few women making music that I care about. I hope we get to hear this CD very soon.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Her voice is similar to Beyonce's? I suggest that you should put that crack pipe down...she sounds like she's straining all the time...in other words, she can't sing for shit...nice legs though...

CRUSH will most likely be the next single in the USA coming out and if it does anything than the album will get released here, if not, then i suggest getting the import. As far as her "straining", i like it! I need to hear someone putting some freaking feeling into singing, everyones vocals are so god damn layered i doubt that people even sing anymore. AMERIE to me puts Soul back into RB,. which is probably she wont catch on, people dont like that stuff, they like it watered down and overproduced and slick.

I coulda sworn she was
on 106th & Park not too long ago
to premiere a new video
I was on the phone with my cousin

and I remember being like
"wow, I didn't know she
had an album coming out"

Her video play here was a joke, BET gave her the shaft as usual, MTV played it once at 4am, and Vh1 passed on it, IMF ran it for a bit, but not many people know of the IMF channel. 106th and park gave it a spin or two, but the major issue is that AMERIE is on Sony, and no one gets played thats a female on Sony at all unless its Beyonce, which is what Kelly Rowland is now finding out and going to find out when her new album streets. Basically for RB females if you arent Beyonce,Rihanna or Ciara you are no one, and for females like Mya and AMerie who are a little different and also older later 20's, they are viewed as OLD NEWS

Yeah, ive lost faith in the USA a long time ago as far as music, i stopped chart watching/caring way back in the late 80's, most of what i like doesnt sell in terms of the USA standards.

Heres a few shots of AMERIE one is from a show the other night in Japan

Take Control video is great. I *love* the hommage to Blow Up. I think her vocals are better than the average R&B female.

They both look like they're touching a mixing desk for the first time in their lives.

Here's what a real sound engineer looks like (notice the focused stare and the oversized shirt to hide the extra weight):

I agree. Amerie is a good singer but what I like about her is that has a distintictive tone to her voice. Nobody out there sounds like her. It's just too bad she's so underrated.

Exactly, some people say she cant sing, but for some reason when it comes to female singers, we tend to think they all need to be ARETHA, while we let male singers who really cant sing at all just slip by. Vocals are all about what you do with them i think, shit Dylan cant sing, but do we hold that against him. Sure Amerie isnt Dylan and im not saying she is, BUT im saying she knows how to SING there are alot of others who dont, who have better/stronger voices who just dont know how to sing. So in my book Amerie is more interesting and gets higher marks because of that, she has her own style of singing, theres more of a LIVE feeling and rawness to her voice that i dont get from most RB/POP females who are praised for their voices, but really cant sing.
