Antmusic for Sexpeople! Anyone else into Adam and the Ants? In terms of performance, image, and fully formed individuality, this guy was England's answer to Prince for a few brilliantly colourful years

I've read that Bowie had some issues, but he still was able to produce great music. Even the worse bowie (Zeroes for example) is a million times better than Adam Ant's best songs

[Edited 5/21/07 10:15am] I'd say he's under-rated.

I'd say go for the next one Friend or Foe. It continues with that same sound. Another good one...Kings of the Wild Frontier. After that the rest get kinda patchy... Strip Vive Le Rock WOnderful I didn't care for Dirk wears White Socks nor Manners and Physique There are some great Comps out there that pretty much capture a lot of the good stuff. Some more or less go include later solo material. If you like Adam, you should check out their rival band, Bow Wow Wow. Really good stuff with those guys too. Christian Zombie Vampires

Dirk Wears White Sox is my favorite, but it's more standard punky rock than new romantic. It's less about image than any music he's done since, and doesn't sound like anything else in his catalog. Side 1 (I'm old, sorry) is a true masterpiece. Kings of the Wild Frontier is similar to Prince Charming. It's his most successfully creative music, I believe. I prefer the old American version with Press Darlings & Your So Physical to the remastered UK version, but maybe that's just nostalgia. Like no other music I've heard, for better AND for worse Pirates & Indians, hmm Friend or Foe is pretty good, probably stronger on the whole than Prince Charming, which had a few duds on it. Strip is okay and a bit forced-sexy at times. I'd like to hear Vive Le Rock, someday. Liked the title track. Manners & Physique is one of the worst albums &'ve heard in a long time. No personality can shine through the awful Casiotronica production. I think Wonderful sounded pretty good from what I've heard. My Legacy

You know they actually were the original Ants (from Dirk Wears White Sox), right? Malcom McLaren stole them from Adam to form Bow Wow Wow, thinking he was too old to be a star! My Legacy

I remember discussing that Image thing with Blackguitaristz more than a few times -- we think Prince actually copped his early to mid 80's Edwardian look from Adam Ant, or at least was influenced by Adam when he went from the trenchcoat to the ruffles.... ... He did in the 90's. The Wonderfull album. Decent, I think. Christian Zombie Vampires

Manners & Physique--I thought it was dreadful. Some of the songs were decent, but the production was so plastic that it drowned all of Adam's personality (which is vital to the music). The music sounded completely generic, where the Ants sounded unique. Hardcore 80's fans might like it, but for me (I first heard it a couple of years ago) it was waaayyyy too dated. My Legacy

I still can't think of any other artists that sounded like Adam and The Ants. The African drumming, Native American chanting, the loud guitars and the whole punk attitude that went with it.
Why don't they make music like this anymore?!!! NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.
