American Idol Ratings Stunner: Loses to Dancing With the Stars Since sanjaya left the show has seen a marked decrease in ratings

Now it's costing in the ratings as ABC's finale of Dancing with the Stars defeated American Idol. Matt Drudge reports online: American Idol Ratings Bust: Loses to Dancing With the Stars American Idol Ratings Bust: Loses to Dancing With the Stars Fox and wunderkind Simon Fuller hit with a historic TV upset Tuesday night -- after ABC's Dancing with the Stars competition pulled in higher ratings than 'American Idol' According to early numbers Dancing scored a 16.5 rating/25 share to Idol's 16.3/25, in what network insiders are calling a 'photo-finish'. *** Continuing: "Our results show is tonight," explains an confident Fox executive, "we'll see who is left standing on the stage." The upset comes as the nation's top-rated show experienced viewership erosion late in the season, at one point, falling more than 15% from a year ago. Dancing easily topped the night in the nation's top cities, pulling a 32 share peak in Chicago and 33 peak in Philly. American Idol should have seen this coming, it was a very weak season with little talent. |

American Idol has had it's time and needs to be over with. It is sickening. It is a tired show. Kelly Clarkson was the only good thing to come out of that show, beyond Prince's stuff. It should have ended after the first season. Enough is enough. It is a big joke. [Edited 5/23/07 8:49am] | |

Well Simon has announced that he is out after 3 more seasons, which is when the contract is up. He feels the idea of the show has grown tired and its time for someone to take his place. overnight ratings of 16.3 vs. 16.5 are not accurate enough to tell which actually had the bigger audience.
