I absolutely adore her recent cover of Luther Vandross' For Always, Forever, For Love. Everytime it comes on the radio, I have to crank the volume up and I'm afraid to say that it is better than Luther's original. My only problem is that I don't know where I can find this song on CD.

I haven`t heard her version, but i think it`s from a compilation called "For ever, for always, for Luther" or something like that. There`s two volumes...

Patti Austin also recorded a Luther song for one of the tribute albums.

I have that one , too! My Favorite tracks are Russell Ferrante's "Smile" and Gary Taylor's "I'm Coming Back" , and Brenda Russell's tune, "Somethin'"...

OMG, I love I'm Coming Back. Also Baby Don't Cry and I've Gotta Move On although it's so sad I can barely listen to it without tearing up.

LOVE HER!!!!! She does not get the vocal credit she deserves.
I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin.

Lalah Hathaway Sings Earth, Wind & Fire 05/23/2007 10:48

Lalah Hathaway
In keeping with their goal to build a fresh roster of artists for their newly revitalized Stax Records label, Concord Records has announced the signing of Lalah Hathaway, daughter of esteemed soul icon Donny Hathaway. Lalah’s Stax debut is due for release later this year. “Lalah’s style represents what Stax is all about, real soul music,” stated Collin Stanback, Vice President, of A&R for Stax. “Her father made significant contributions to soul music and it is only fitting that she embraces her role as his heir.
In addition to releasing her own CD, Hathaway was one of the soul artists included on the Stax all-star project, Interpretations: Celebrating the Music of Earth, Wind & Fire, which was released earlier this year. Her version of “Love’s Holiday” is the second single which will be going to radio this week.

A graduate of the famed Berklee School of Music, Hathaway has worked with a number of fine artists including recording a single, “Love Like This,” with the late, great saxophonist, Grover Washington, Jr. (1992). In 1999 she recorded a critically acclaimed album for Verve Records with jazz pianist Joe Sample, The Song Lives On, highlighted by what is now her signature song, “When Your Life Was Low.” In 2004 Hathaway released a solo CD, Outrun The Sky, on Mesa Bluemoon Records. The single from that CD, Forever, For Always, For Love, produced by Rex Rideout, was also on the Grammy-nominated Verve Records tribute to Luther Vandross, “Forever, For Always, For Luther.” Her credits also include collaborations with Marcus Miller, Meshell Ndegeocello, Art Porter, David Sanborn, Mary J. Blige, Take 6, Gerald Albright, The Winans, Pete Escovedo, Wayman Tisdale and Hiram Bullock. She has performed live with Dizzy Gillespie, Al Jarreau, Boney James, Al Green, George Duke, Stevie Wonder and many more.

"The foundation of soul music is rooted inStax Records," stated Hathaway. "Working with Maurice White on the Interpretations project was more than special to me. There is no higher compliment than to be signed to a label whose music is timeless. I'm proud to carry the torch that will continue to bring quality soul music to a new audience."
