American Idol is about 50% singing ability and 50% looks. I could see weeks ago that Melinda was not going to win this thing, especially when it looked like Jordan was going to be there till the end.

Melinda is undoubtedly the best singer there and personally I quite liked her. All the contestants have acting down to an art form though and I think Jordan is the fakest one of the lot and has fooled the American public big time. There was a moment maybe last week. The singer with the lowest vote was singing their last song and the camera cut to Jordan. She was watcing as any spectator would for a split second, and then noticed the camera on her and began crying. Like she really missed that guy

Unfortunatley Melinda lost out on the cutesy factor displyed by Jordan. As she has talent though, I think she'll get the recording contract due her, and go far.

We have no idea of knowing who voted for whom. There is no racial breakdown of who's doing the dialing. Given that, how can you determine it's racist?

It's already been said in this thread - it's bad taste more than anything else.

Most of the people who vote on American Idol contestants range from tweens to their mid-20s, so the contestants who end up winning usually skew younger than who may or may mot be more talented. Taylor Hicks may have been an exception, but the rest of the winners have all been 23 years old or younger. As for what lastdecember said, Katharine McPhee was not more talented than Taylor Hicks when she was on AI, but she was and still is far more marketable as an artist and has a lot more potential to become a music superstar. Plus she's a real hottie.

american idol is all about having a fanbase, it just happens that melinda didn't have a big enough fanbase who committed to voting like the others
