TRIP THE LIGHT FANTASTIC - Review of the new Sophie Ellis-Bextor album

Here's a quick review of Sophie's new album, produced by Fred Schneider of The B-52's. I'll elaborate it in a few days:

01. Catch You 03:19

Excelente song...superb video also! Matronik favorite jam! 10/10

02. Me And My Imagination 03:27

Very familiar song to Sophie's previous stuff. Ibiza vibe in it. Current single.
I whored this song a lot here at the org 9/10

03. New York City Lights 04:18

80's vibe...nice song 7/10

04. Today The Sun's On Us 03:53

The up-tempo ballad. Beautiful! Grower! 9/10

05. If I Can't Dance 03:27

Dance tune. Retro sounding. Very early euro techno synths in it. Reminds me of something Herby hancock would do if he was sick and crazy! 8/10

06. The Distance Between Us 04:26

Another ballad. A bit boring! 5/10

07. If You Go 03:28

This was one of the 5 tunes of the advance sampler I talked about in a thread I made some months ago. Really great tune. I don't consider this hit material, but it's a superb example of an excelent pop song. Very Anthemic imo. Personnal favorite. 10/10

08. Love Is Here 03:46

Subdued disco-like tune. Reminds me of something Cher would do if she had married Barry Manilow. 7/10

09. Only One 04:35

A very diferent song. Reminds of Vanity 6...Kind of a rockabilly nightmare done 10 years later. Nice guitar work. A bit in the field of FILLER! LOL Future guilty pleasure tune. 6/10

10. New Flame 02:52

Guitar! Yummy! Reminds me of Blondie...It's really yummylicious! 8/10

11. China Heart 03:44

Pure 80's!!!!! This shit is hot. Moroder influence here in the synth work! EVEN BETTER IT'S A RIP-OFF OF BLONDIE'S RAPTURE!!!! I LOVE IT. 9/10

12. What Have We Started 04:06

A almost quiet song. Feature a classical sample (or some orchestra playing!). The song is in a Crescendo. Again a very 80's zest to it. 7/10

OVERALL OPINION:

I was expecting a more dance album. Instead I found something with guitars and some Blondie moments. This is one of the best pop music albums of 2007.

I give it a 8/10!
