"But i love you" is a hidden gem, such a beautiful song I also found a japanese reissue of her "Somewhere in my lifetime" on cd, there`s some tracks there that aren`t available on any compilations. A little off topic, but are you familiar with Shirley Murdock?

"This Feeling Must Be Love", "Some Way" and "Complete Me" are my favorites off that one. "Say I'm lookin' at you, from the corner of my eye..."

I don't know anythang about a new album tho, I know she's been doing more gospel type music these days. "Say I'm lookin' at you, from the corner of my eye..."

In March of this year, she released a new album called 'Soul Food',featuring the single "I Love Me Better Than That".I think it's a gospel/R&B album. She was recently in my area, performing songs from it.

This is her BEST compilation.
If I'm not mistaken, she won an EMMY for her per4mance in this musical... As far as "You Know How To Love Me". Phyllis said that the whole record was a nightmare becoz James Mtume(the producer) was so unsatisfied with her per4mances that he made her do the takes over and over. Untill she cussed him out and he had to follow her on the streets and drag her back to finish the recording. The finished product is what you guys are hearing now - an angry Phyllis. Listen to the end of the song and you'll hear her sing "I wasn't born yesterday" that was directed @ Mtume for telling her how to sing.

Now I know what that last line was about, I'm playin the track now and this what I hear at the end: "I wasn't born yesterday....spent my time in the streets and I played" "Say I'm lookin' at you, from the corner of my eye..."

This is why I love this site, I learn something new everyday about my favorite artists. Phyllis was so beautiful and she could sing her butt off, she was a rare talent

Like I said over and over, you guys should pick up this book by David Nathan
Really, I cannot stress this enough esp since 1/2 of the divas discussed in this book don't have bio-books about their lives(Millie Jackson, Esther Phillips, Phyllis, Roberta Flack,,,etc etc). Millie & Esther's chapters are RIOTS

Phyllis was a true beauty and talent. I remember when she posed nude (but tastefully) for OUI magazine back in the early 80's. Wish I still had those pictures.

The part that had me laughing was when Millie said she didn't get her credit on one of her albums and that's when Mildred came out
