yes grunge brought guitar back to the forefront
but at the same time brought worst sides of punk:
no good instrumentalist and composers.rock musice

listen to other kind of music.
also rock isn't young anymore it turn 50 2 years ago.

but what is rock?dance music
music for people who want to dance .psihodelic and
progresive rock wasnt good music to dancing
so rock moved into punk movement which simplified rock music again to be dancing music
,after that it moved to new wave,second british invasion of heavy metal and after that nothing.

so maybe its safe to say rock was natural progression of dance music.
