May 26,1979---Carrie Lucas,GQ,The Gap Band
This one's right at the height of the disco era who remembers Carrie Lucas' disco jam "Dance With You"? The Gap Band weren't big stars yet...on this episode, they probably perform their 1979 song "Shake".

I'm just the opposite I'd rather see mostly 70s episodes. The early 80s episodes are fine but nothing past 1984.

There are some amazing episodes from the 70s!! I don't know why Don Cornelius is holding back. There's one episode from the early 70s featuring Sly and The Family Stone and they take over the whole show!! At one point,Sly even walks into the audience and dances with the dancers.
There's an early 70s episode with Stevie Wonder debuting his new single "Superstition" for the first time.At one point,he sits at his piano, surrounded by Don and the dancers. He comes up with a new song right there,on the spot....sorta like a tribute song about "Soul Train". There's the David Bowie performance from 1976.And the Elton John performance from 1974.He performs "Bennie and The Jets".

Prince (artist) / For Lovers Only(aired 7 May 1994) Don't encourage them to go anywhere near the 1990s. Thank God that decade is over. I watched the Prince episode (only to see Prince). The rest of the show was horrible....but, of course, music as a whole was horrible back then. Andy is a four letter word.

Yeah, nothing past 1984 For the most part,R&B music went downhill after that.New Jack Swing dominated the late 80s and from that point on,R&B began sounding like hip-hop.In the early 80s,R&B still sounded like R&B.

And better yet, it was mostly dominated by funk. When funk dies, artists might as well call it quits because "If they don't make funk, they can keep their dull ass junk". Andy is a four letter word.

I really want to see that episode from 1980 with Seventh Wonder because I remember a bad ass jam by them from that year but I never knew the name of it and haven't heard the song since 1980. They played it a lot on our local "Soul Train" type show called "Black Gold" and every now and then on the radio. It was never a hit but, that was the good thing about back then....shows didn't play just established hits only, they tried to make future hits. Whether they were successful or not, didn't matter. In the meantime, the public was getting great funk. Andy is a four letter word.
