great article... I love this line from Betty.

"I was around drugs a lot," Davis told me. "They just never interested me. You've got to respect people's values. People never forced me to take drugs, and I never told people to get off them." cool

Nice article.

I also saw these this weekend...

My favorite quote so far is Santana's...

She was the first Madonna, but Madonna is more like Marie Osmond compared to Betty Davis.
Betty Davis was a real ferocious Black Panther woman. You couldn't tame Betty Davis

that is a great quote, and it's true...i guess madonna serves/served somewhat the same purpose as betty could have (or did), but she doesn't even scratch the surface in comparison. maybe if you put madonna and grace jones in a blender and poured the concoction all over tina turner's head, you might come close. but even then.... lol

she sounded bitter and more than a little dismissive. she has probably dealt with so much disappointment after living on such a high in her "glory days", that all of this recent attention is something she can't let herself enjoy for fear of being let down again.

that's my guess anyway. i know she's not doing well financially, and she's had a life of knowing she could have/should have been a lot more than what actually happened. it'd be great if the music caught on and she became hot this year.

question: if a betty davis song is licenced, like to a commercial or a movie, does she get royalties from that?

i guess you're right. she's probably thinking "now you mother fuckers are sweating me"? mad well to me that just shows she was 33 years ahead of her time musically. how amazing is that? i do hope one day she'll put out some new music. she is way too talented to be sitting at home watching scooby doo all day.

i would think she'd get a cut of the money.

tell me about it though i can't quite see her stuff being played in tv ads but definitely some films. hopefully not one made by QT, i don't like him. he seems annoying and full of himself.

not a big QT fan here either, but he has a wide following and betty's music seems right up his alley. anything to get her back out there!

If she either wrote the song and/or owns the master she would get royalties.

from what i've read, she has only recently gained the ability to receive royalties from her music.

But the article also said that they had money for her that she didn't get because they couldn't find her. What's up with that? They either didn't make much effort or she really hid. She doesn't seem to be working, so don't you think she would see after such things?

I passed by Virgin to pick up the Horrors CD during lunch and looked for the Betty Davis reissues, but they weren't in stock yet. Even on Amazon there is at least a week delay. What's up with that?

At least Best Buy will tell you online that your CD isn't there before you go.
