Mariah was a "ghostwriter" for New kids on the block"

I just heard that Mariah worte and co produced "If you go away" for New kids on the block, the track is actuall credited to Walter A and Trey Lorenz I believe, I guess she didnt associate herself with then or it was left over form her "emotions" album
I tracked down the song and does sound exactly like Mariah song circa 1991

Mariah's a damn good writer. I respect her for that. I truly believe the girl has a great ear for melody, and no doubt her mother passed that on to her. I admit it: I'm an unapologetic Mariah fan. Sure her music isn't risky, but it is immensely enjoyable.

I have this album. It was released in 1994. Mariah released Music Box the year before. She worked with Walter on some songs on that album. This doesn't sound like anything she was doing in 1993 or 1994, to me. Why would you think Mariah ghostwrote it? Who did you hear that from?

another board, apparaently this rumor had been around awhile, it doesnt sound like a musicbox track but the production and writting, melody is too similar to "cant let go"

Ah, well most of the songs on Face The Music sound a few years out of date. I've always loved that song. I don't see why she would have a problem admitting to ghostwriting it, after all these years. I think I'll play the album tonight

p.s. They were strictly going by NKOTB at that point wink

Mariah writes most of her songs and produces and arrange. A lot people dismiss her, but from the start of her career, the girl's been getting her musical hustle on.

because I think Mariah finds everything about early 90's embarassing

Alot popular singer/songwriters "ghostwrite" for otehr artists but never reveal..maybe they dont want to be at that time associtated with them, I have heard there have been a few well respect/taleneted writers who have co written with Mariah but had asked not be on the credits with her (but i would guess would still get royalties)

Actually, 'If You Go Away' was from Christmas 1991. They just tacked it onto their last album in 1994 because it was a hit and hadn't been on any of their other albums.

You know what? That makes total sense. I was thinking about how old I was in 1994 and I could have sworn I was younger than that when I first heard the song. lol I was literally trying to convince myself I was older than I thought, when the song came out

I heard she also plays piano on quite a few of her tracks too. Is that true?

I think she does, I'll have to re-read the liner notes.
