Isn't "Strokety Stroke" one of the funkiest jams that the O'Jays ever did?
They played that song on lasty week's episode too, along with EW&F's "Got To Get You Into My Life". Freda Payne was just alright...nothing special Overall, not a very exciting episode, especially considering the era they were in.

Freda didn't do a good job lip-singing, she was off on all three songs, was it me or did she seem a little high?
It was an okay episode, if they are going to show episodes from the same season they could at least show ones where different songs are played. We already heard that E.W.F. cut and that O'Jays cut.

Episode was ok- I didn't know that Atlantic Star, the same group that gave me "Always" and "Secret Lovers", was so big with the horn section and all. I also didn't know that they did funky uptempo songs.
Felt kinda shortchanged on the Soul Train line.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed this Her performances were terrible,indeed...especially that tacky disco version of "Happy Days Are Here Again"

Oh yeah,Atlantic Starr could funk it up,when they wanted to."Stand Up" is a jam and even during their mid-80s crossover period, they still managed to release the super funky "Freak-A-Ristic".

No,she also had another big hit "Bring The Boys Home" in the early 70s If I'm not mistaken, during the 70s she was married to singer Gregory Abbott, who had a big hit of his own in 1986 ("Shake You Down").

I thought the episode was simply decent. They are in the right era but Atlantic Star and Freda Payne are not artists that the era was known for.
Since Jody Watley and Jeffrey Daniels are former "Soul Train" dancers, they really should show the episode with Shalamar performing "The Second Time Around". Not only would the show be highlighting one of "their own", but it also would be very indicative of how the era really was.....not to mention, it would be a very enjoyable episode (I saw it and want to see it again). Andy is a four letter word.

They were never one of my favorite groups but I did enjoy their music.....before they became a group's answer to Shitney Houston. Andy is a four letter word.

I agree, they need to bring out the artists who truly represented that era!! Where is Rose Royce,The Brothers Johnson,Natalie Cole,Ray Parker Jr and Raydio,The Commodores, etc? Let's see those episodes.

I am agreeing as well. I think don is just b s sing us, killing time until the shows of today starts back up. as many clips of performers singing their hits we are getting just the average shows. I did like the first song atlantic star did. but like vain said they were not known until the eighties. and freda was doing some awful lipsincing. and the second song she performed was cool but sounded a lot like linda clifford. COME ON GUYS BREAK IT DOWN FOR US! nipsy

COME ON GUYS BREAK IT DOWN FOR US! Don needs to be reading Soul Alive's thread about what we would pick for upcoming episodes. There were some great suggestions on that thread....except for the few that wanted late 80s or 90s episodes....Don needs to overlook those posts. Andy is a four letter word.

That was the worst lip synching job i've ever seen and yes she did look high. i actually don't know anything about her but she was off for sure! Once again this was not a great episode for me. I wish they would stick with the 80's!
