Hopefully this means we have 3 and a half more months of old episodes.

When September gets here, don't anyone go near "Soul Train". Let's drop the ratings and hope the show is either forced to show more old episodes or go off the air altogether.

that is funny no one go near soul train.

I applaud wanda but she isn't funny to me. and yeah I hope we get through the summer with some good old episodes.

Well at least he needs to stop airing all these filler episodes and start showin some of the more "live" ones...I kind of startin to think that he probably don't know the difference anymore lol...

Considering that I started watching the show in 1979 on up into the 1980s, I'm fine with the lip syncing because that's all I ever knew the show for to begin with.

From what I've seen, the only artists that performed live on the show were from the early to mid 1970s and they have usually been the artists that have been all over the television on various shows for years such as Al Green or James Brown. I'm tired of seeing folks I've seen for years. I'll take me some rare forgotten appearances by folks like Skyy or The Barkays any way I can get them....lip synced or live. lol

they should find some DJs and digital editing geeks and "remix" some of the classic soul train footage with current footage of GOOD soul performers in a live setting

Oh hell to the naw! If there are any good new soul performers these days, they have been performing somewhere for Santa Claus, The Easter Bunny, and The Tooth Fairy. lol

Good soul performers don't exist anymore and I absolutely hate having to sit and listen to some sorry shit hop influenced soul singers just to get to the good old stuff. When they play an "American Idol" commercial during "Soul Train" it just spoils my good mood so you know I'd be ready to smash the TV if I actually had to sit through some whole songs like that. lol

whether it's tour footage or studio performances a la "unplugged" (enough with the lip synching, grandpa don! lol)

Please, no unplugged. It's "Soul Train" not "Hee Haw". "Unplugged" accoustical music is just trading in one simple stripped down form of music such as shit hop, for an even more boring simple stripped down form of music. Also, "Soul Train" is a dance show. You can't dance to that slow mess.

Sorry, but I can't be mad at Don for this. He owns, exclusively, all of the rights to all of the Soul Trains, so he's getting paid from these reruns plus the new sponsorships (like McDonald's) that are tagged onto these reruns.

Now, he's bringing it back for another season? Good or bad, he's making more money. More power (as well as love, peace, and soul) to him!

I've noticed that all the companies that used to sponsor "Soul Train" are gone such as the black hair care products, Fashion Fare make-up, Ebony/Jet magazine, etc. The only sponsors left are the huge ones like McDonald's, Kool-Aid, and commercials for those tired current shows like "American Idol". I'm assuming the black sponsors left years ago when the "soul" left "Soul Train".

For you to consider calling it the "Shyt-Hop Train" wouldn't do this horror any justice. THIS is the freaking "Soul Train Wreck"!!! disbelief lol

Well, hopefully it will either wreck the show off the air or back into reruns. The worse they make the new episodes of "Soul Train", the quicker it will die.

Don should just stick to showing re-runs.Young kids don't even watch 'Soul Train' anyway. They don't need to.They already have MTV,BET,VH-1 and YouTube lol Keep showing the re-runs from the 70s and 80s and keep us Old School folks happy.

Exactly. These no-taste listeners these days have the entire radio and various video channels to hear their bullshit and they don't have to sit and listen to the old music to get to it. We Old Schoolers have nothing and we deserve at least the reruns for our entertainment. And we sure as hell don't want the old mixed with the new. That just ruins the whole good feeling the old jams give.

I have nothing but 100% respect for Sly Stone on the awards show a few years ago when he walked off the stage when those shit hoppers were performing with him. Too bad Prince wasn't that cool back in 2004. lol

My best guess, and it's why I'm not mad at Don for doing new Soul Trains, is that those original sponsors didn't have it in their agreements to be a Soul Train sponsor in the event that the shows went into syndication. Once Don Cornelius Productions syndicated the old Soul Trains (mainly on CW stations), he went to bigger sponsors that are currently trying to target black youth (McDonalds, Walmart, Sprite) and cut deals with them to let them sponsor these reruns. In other words, he got paid from 1 set of sponsors when the shows originally ran and got paid from another set of sponsors for the reruns. And I'm betting that he cut some very nice deals and is making good money off of these reruns.

It wouldn't suprise me if you see both the old and new airing on different stations come this fall. If that ends up being the case, then Don will be making so much money that it's not funny. After all, he wouldn't do new Soul Trains unless there's some guaranteed profit in there for him. Since he owns the franchise, that profit would come in the form of sponsorships
