Pharoah Munch or Mos Def? I just heard the song Oh No by Pharoah Munch and Mos Def. I forgot how dope that song was. Both M.C.'s are pretty dope? Which one do you like better? Who would win in a freestyle batte? Carpenters bend wood, fletchers bend arrows, wise men fashion themselves.

First off, his name is Pharoahe Monch. (pronounced Fay-ro Monk)
I like his lyrics and flow better than Mos Def. As I have stated on here before, Mos is just too damned "New Yawk" for my tastes. Its great if you're from there or lived there but I can't relate as much because I'm not. Plus, Pharoahe in my opinion is more clever than Biggie and deeper than Pac lyrically. Plus he has direction and lots of forethought. That's why he'll probably never be as mainstream. Check this song: http://www.youtube.com/wa...Z6-FYAngvc Mos Def touches on stuff and then moves on. He needs more focus in my opinion. I still like both. Screw a rap battle. Battle rapping is for kids. [Edited 5/13/07 10:55am]

Sorry bout spelling his name wrong. I just was trying to do it outta my head. Oh blaque knight, I beg to differ that battle rapping is for kids. It is often times how the best of M.C.'s have honed there skills and eventual stage prescence. I highly doubt that Mos Def or Pharohe have never been in a battle and would probably tell you that if an M.C. could not kick a proper free style, he's probably not worth his salt as an artist. Carpenters bend wood, fletchers bend arrows, wise men fashion themselves.

That may be true but none of that really and truly matters in the grand scheme of things. Pharoahe will be remembered for songs like "Gun Draws" much more so than for some battle against some MC. It is the released music with thought and depth that makes him hot; not how quickly he can deliver a punchline. Punchline rappers with nothing to say have no legacy to leave. When someone gives you a national stage forum and the only thing out of your mouth is about someone else, you are garbage and will be forgotten. Pharoahe, Mos, Talieb and some others spit fire but they also have something to say. I just think Pharoahe is a little hotter than a lot of the other "backpack" rappers.
