The "Heat of the Heat" is a wonderful song. Was the album produced by Q, since she is his god daughter.

Not the whole album that I know of. "The Heat of Heat" was produced by Jimmy Jam & Terry. She got another great one on there "Only A Breath Away" that was produced by Monte Moir.

Talking of Patti austin, did anyone know that she dueted with MJ on the song "It's the falling in Love" from the Off The Wall album. She is a great singer, should have gotten more recognition.

I don't know much about Patti Austin
except Q is her godfather
she's been in the industry since a kid
she sang on the movie Jackie's Back

I used to have one of her vinyls:

but I only really liked the title track
so I sold it back

what I really want to know is
WHERE DO I START?
I love her voice, but I just
don't know where to start with her catalog
"be who you are and say what you feel
because those who mind don't matter
and those who matter don't mind."

I agree wit ya wholeheartedly, she is definitely underrated. I love that woman's voice; she's actually one of my top 3 female R&B singers.

DirtyChris, i have some recommendations...

I would start with a compilation. "The very best of Patti Austin" is a good choice, mainly because it includes the beautiful "Say you love me", one of her best songs.

"Every home should have one" - My favorite Patti Austin album. The title tracks is brilliant, you also get the beautiful quiet storm duet "Baby, come to me", and other great tracks like "The way i feel", "Do you love me" and "Symphony of love". There`s also a good rendition of "Stop, look, listen (to your heart)"

Another gem is her live album from 1992. Here she does some HILARIOUS impersonations of Michael Jackson, Anita Baker, Jennifer Holliday, Michael McDonald, James Ingram and Cher. "You wanna go see Cher flossing that ass with that g-string"

"I can cook too", "Through the test of time" and "(Don`t know) whether to laugh or cry" are my favorites from this live cd.
