Van Hunt Has Finished His New Album from his My Space page:
Wednesday, May 09, 2007
The III i have finished my record; and, with each listen my confidence grows. it is a record that breeds assurances. they start out as the deepest form of flattery that uncertainty can imitate. after listening again, the hesitation turns into excitement. to that end, i guess the experience could be compared to the first time you rode a really wild roller coaster, had kinky sex or jumped off the high dive (provided your approval of any of these pleasantries was not immediate). but, the uncomfortable honesty is, that upon first listen, most of the people, who i have invited to hear it, simply do not know if they like the new record. i have heard this said about my second record as well, 'On The Jungle Floor.' but, at least, that record had it's reference points (70's, 80's, blah 3X). but, i can happily say: this record is, purposely, a departure from..... anything..... (including my and your past but, excluding those moments when my influences and habits did catch up to me). Picasso said that "good art disrupts." the only warning i can give you is that i alternated between Liszt, AM talk radio and driving around in silence for about a month before i began to write. i bought a piano (seems as though i would've had one already?...) and then, i wrote the songs on that piano-even the uptempos. that's not to say that it is a piano record... it is not... but, if it ever needed to play one on TV-it could(*wink). van hunt Anybody feel that same sort of excitement that you used to feel about Prince's 80's releases? There aren't that many artists around that breed that sort of emotion. Me'Shell and Beck immediately come to mind, but Van Hunt is quickly approaching that same status for me.

I have a feeling that he's going to compromise to get commercial appeal but I'll still support him...

I don't think he will. If anything, his first record was his most commercial release. He actually wrote another blog about not compromising his vision and making it seems like he's one thing when he isn't really.
