BJORK: "Madonna got my lyrics wrong"

Bjork: Madonna got my lyrics wrong
Posted: 09 May 2007 - From Digital Spy
Bjork has revealed that Madonna sang the wrong lyrics on the 1995 single she wrote for the pop queen.
The Icelandic star penned lyrics for 'Bedtime Story', which Madonna took to number four in the charts in February 1995, at the request of producer Nellee Hooper.
However, she was surprised when she first heard Madonna's recording of the song.
She told Attitude: 'She did her own version and wrote the lyrics wrong. I can't remember right now, but it was a really interesting mistake.'
'It was something like 'Let's say goodbye to logic and reason' and she got it wrong so that it actually meant the opposite....I was like, 'Okay....''

Justin Timberlake on working with Madonna
Posted: 09 May 2007

Justin Timberlake was interviewed by Billy Bush on the U.S. entertainment show Access Hollywood and this is what he had to say about Madonna's new album:

On the experience of working with Madonna:

She's Madonna. It doesn't get any cooler than that. I spent a week in the studio with her in London and we....we produced about five or six....some really good tracks....some finished, some not finished. I'm gonna go back in July and work on some more stuff.

On the possibility of singing with Madonna:

Uh, possibly, yeah. Her work ethic is very infectious in the studio. I was kind like, man, I'm too slow. She's a workhorse. I'm just a fan. I'm basically just a fan who, like, tricked Madonna. (laughs

I assume Madonna just changed the lyrics to her liking....the song went all the way to number 4 in the UK?

i've said it before and i'll say it again, Madonna can release a piece of turd and it will hit the top ten in the UK without question (and top 5 if its the first release of a new album)

Although i really like this song.

nod

Bedtime Story
written by Hooper, Bjork, and Marius DeVries

Today is the last day that I'm using words
They've gone out, lost their meaning
Don't function anymore

Let's, let's, let's get unconscious honey
Let's get unconscious honey

Today is the last day that I'm using words
They've gone out, lost their meaning
Don't function anymore

Traveling, leaving logic and reason
Traveling, to the arms of unconsciousness
Traveling, leaving logic and reason
Traveling, to the arms of unconsciousness

Chorus:

Let's get unconscious honey
Let's get unconscious
Let's get unconscious honey
Let's get unconscious

Words are useless, especically sentences
They don't stand for anything
How could they explain how I feel

Traveling, traveling, I'm traveling
Traveling, traveling, leaving logic and reason
Traveling, traveling, I'm gonna relax
Traveling, traveling, in the arms of unconsciousness

(chorus)

And inside we're all still wet
Longing and yearning
How can I explain how I feel?

(chorus)

Traveling, traveling (repeat twice)
Traveling, traveling, in the arms of unconsciousness

And all that you've ever learned
Try to forget
I'll never explain again

maybe bjork was talking about an early demo version or something? confuse

of course, this IS bjork, so who knows what she heard. she might have been stuffing cocoons in her ears that day so butterflies would fly out of her head.

Er... it's pretty well-known that Madonna re-wrote substantial portions of this song before she recorded it. IIRC, I think she even has a tacked on writing credit.

if she did her name would have appeared in the lyric sheet as the the first writer, like Me Against the Music.

There are times when she does just sing others songs.

what I remember most about it tanking is her quote in USA Today at the time saying her fans just weren't there for her with this experimental single.

it was really kind of a slap in the face. her FANS were the only people that bought it. it was actually kind of revealing, in that it showed how big her core audience at the time was, without any casual interest sales, when BS and HN just missed the top 40

it was after Sex which caused alot of people to flock from her and the David Letterman blow up. Madonna wasn't on sure ground. Sure she was a celebrity and still the biggest star, but she was on more of infamous than famous part of carear.

It was certaintly the end of the era were everything Madonna did hit the Top Ten in the US and obviously her fanbase still supports her, but causal fans certaintly got wedded out over those years...they came back with ROL and Music and to a lesser extent, COADF.

I also think it was the begining of the switch of the singles chart. I remember both videos getting lots of airplay on MTV.

that doesn't really hold up because she had just had 2 of the biggest hits of her career (Take A Bow and I'll Remember) and Secret on top of that.

i don't think the switch happened until late summer of 95 or the fall. i remember it was You Are Not Alone by MJ that was the first one to top the chart first week because of the switch. BS and HN came out much earlier than that.

yeah it does. those were songs that casual listeners got into and bought. also this i think was a time when Madonna started spacing out her singles more and Bedtime Story and Human Nature were apporaching a year after the release of Bedtime Stories. Interest had faded in the album and the singles and Madonna was supposdly starting to work on her tour that got canceled for Evita.

Bedtime Story's main problem is that it was released too early. TAB was still incredibly popular.

neither is superior, but they probably would have fared better. though it probably should have been Survival rather than Inside Of Me
