What type of group/band were they. i just saw a little bit of it. it's 3 girls in weird bellydancing outfits doing a disco/funk sort of thing with weird bubbly noises. [Edited 5/5/07 12:25pm] "I don't need your forgiveness, cos I've been saved by Jesus, so fuck you."

Did you guys notice how empty the dancefloor looked today? I guess alot of the dancers stayed home and had something else to do,lol.
Otherwise,it was an okay show....not great, but okay. The best part was hearing Teddy Pendergrass' "When Somebody Loves You Back" [Edited 5/5/07 14:48pm]

Stargard absolutely got off! Those were some bad bitches. They had a Pointer Sisters sound and a LaBelle look. Best of all, their music was funky as hell!
This episode did bring back memories of how I used to feel in those days.....waiting impatiently for Peabo Bryson to finish his slow songs so the show could play another jam. Andy is a four letter word.

We need a Stargard thread real soon. I did a thread on "Which Way Is Up" a few months ago. I never heard the song until last year and fell in love with it but didn't know who sang it. I thought it was The Pointer Sisters. When I found out the name of the group, I did a thread and The Audience told me it was from the movie "Which Way Is Up" with Richard Pryor. Here are the next two weeks:
May 12 Freda Payne sings "Happy Days Are Here Again" and "Falling in Love"; Atlantic Starr does "Stand Up." Don Cornelius is the host. May 19 Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr. sing "Shine On Silver Moon" and "You Got the Love"; and Lakeside does "A Shot of Love" and "It's All the Way Live." Host: Don Cornelius. I can't wait to see Lakeside. That one should be a real ass shaker! . . [Edited 5/5/07 16:54pm] Andy is a four letter word.

Yeah SoulAlive I noticed the dance floor looked kinda empty on this weeks episode, I wonder what happen that week. It was an okay episode, I'm not that big a Peabo Bryson fan so I tuned him out when he came on, Stargard was funky as hell, I'll have to keep my eyes open for them when I go on another vinly dig next week.

Funny thing was, I saw Peabo Bryson in concert very recently. It was wild watching him on last night's episode looking so young. He's definately aged, but dude can still hit most of those notes and is still a helluva singer.
Whomever said earlier that Stargard got off wasn't lying. I was pleasantly surprised, but that "Which Way Is Up" was funky as hell- had my baby daughter dancing and singing all over the place!

The Marilyn McCoo/Lakeside episode originally aired on January 6,1979. Looks like they're gonna stay in the disco era for awhile

If you guys like Starguard, you should pick up some Rose Royce albums from this period. Both groups were produced by Norman Whitfield.Starguard's songs sound just like the music from 'Car Wash'.

I wanna see some 80's episodes, dammit! I'll drop whatever I'm doing just to catch a group like Cameo or The Gap Band if they showed that. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

This episode did bring back memories of how I used to feel in those days.....waiting impatiently for Peabo Bryson to finish his slow songs so the show could play another jam. yeah stargard was a very un-noticed group. I was a big fan of theirs. and their biggest hit was from the movie which way is up, which they performed. The other single turn up your radio was a hit also. Their albums are golden, even into the. yeah they got off big time. and all the songs used for that show were good. the dancefloor WAS quite empty. the song selection was good but not too much energy from the dancers. I like the lines when they go down as couples more than the guys in one line and the girls in another. I thought the songs that peabo did came out much later, like early eighties. the dancer that danced on the scramble board has been the dance coordinator for the show a number of years now. probably more than twenty. nipsy

I need more 78- like the early eighties. I am ready before the show decides to change things again. (like modern) nipsy

Did anyone notice the guy with the hole in the seat of his pants during the line dance segment? He's around the second or third guy to come down the line and he has on maroon pants. When he kicked his leg up, there was a hole in his pants and you could see his white underwear where his balls are. I noticed that immediately and couldn't wait to watch my DVD recording when it finished so I could pause and zoom in on it.

Peabo Bryson is a great singer but his music has always bored me. Actually, I like "Feel The Fire" (not enough to buy the record though) but the time on "Soul Train" should not be wasted on a slow song when there were so many fast jams that could have taken it's place.
