I love their ballads. Hell, those are the type of slow jams I love. Groups like The Stylistics, Blue Magic, The Delfonics, Switch, Heatwave, Enchantment, Cameo, Prince, Rick James, Lakeside, New Birth, GQ, The Barkays, etc.

I love the kind of slow jams that have a "meet a stranger at 2 a.m. and sleep with them" sexy type of feel to them. I hate slow stuff that sounds like a lonely boring bright sunny Sunday afternoon with a parent friendly feel to it....stuff like Shitney Houston, Anita Baker, Freddie Jackson, Mikki Howard, Regina Belle, etc. Damn, I'm getting depressed just typing the names. lol

I hated it. Actually, I find Anita Baker's music to be twice as boring as Shitney Houston's music. However, Shitney is the one I have a problem with because she opened the doors for people being hugely successful making the most boring music they can make. Anita was around in the early 80s (when funk was dominating) but she wasn't successful. She didn't become a success until the late 80s when Shitney was dominating, funk was scarce, and some of the dullest artists imaginable were becoming huge successes.

Actually, the first time I heard Anita Baker, it was a song called....

You better watch your step
You'll fall and hurt yourself one day

I heard it on one of our local R&B stations that was located at 100 on the dial right next to a country station at 99 on the dial (this was the days of the rotary tuner). I thought I had my radio tuned to the country station. I moved the knob over a little to the other station and I heard nothing but country music. I moved the knob again and heard the Anita Baker song which reminded me of a blind female country singer from the early 80s that had a hit with....

Somebody's knockin' should I let 'em in
Lord it's the devil
Would you look at him

I thought the R&B station had changed their format to country. I was getting pissed. Afterwards, they played an R&B song and I saw their format was still the same....they were just playing more boring R&B than before. lol

You're referring to "Somebody's Knockin" by Terri Gibb (1981) lol
