Whodini gets no respect! To me, Whodini is not only one of the founding fathers of this hip hop game, but they're also one of the greatest groups of all time. So why are they not getting credit? Why aren't their names being mention in the history of rap? It baffles me to death. No respect! That's all that is. Tell me why? It's a major slap in the face when the Fat Boys name is mentioned ahead of theirs. I don't remember back in the day if Yo! MTV Raps even showed one of their videos. VH1 Hip Hop Honors has yet to acknowledge or honor them and coming this fall would be the 4th edition. Another slap in the face is when VH1 had their top 50 rap acts of all time televised last year(hosted by P. Diddy) and they wasn't even in the countdown. But yet they had Arrested Development in the countdown and they only had 2 albums. Why? Can somebody tell me? Whodini laid the foundation and can't even get respect from their peers. It's a sad ending to a great career for those guys. Will they ever get their respect? I hope so. We'll just have to wait. Peace and be wild!

So true. I've often wondered why their name is never mentioned when the history of rap is being discussed. I just don't understand the lack of respect.

Count me in as a whodini fan. I liked mostly all of their cd's. Yeah there is a
bit of a lack of respect basically because their songs or videos never crossed over while a lot of these other rap acts have but surprisingly some of the other rap acts like nas and dmx admit they grew up listening to whodini. Favorite whodini jam - Five minutes of funk Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

I have a Whodini greatest hits that I keep in rotation on my Ipod. I have to hear Escape at least 1x a day . 5 Minutes of Funk is and will always be my favorite classic jam.
spelling edit [Edited 5/8/07 19:19pm] Just Call Me Afrochick
I love you mom | |

They said it better than I can: Friends How many of us have them? Friends Ones we can depend on Friends I love Whodini btw and you're right! They're the Rodney Dangerfields of Hip Hop. They get no respect! I saw them perform in Detroit a few years ago. I'll have to dig up my pictures and post them. [Edited 5/8/07 21:59pm]

F***k VH1. Whoudini gets their respect from the Hip Hop community. I have seen them at many events receiving love. Just because they don't play the mainstream media game doesn't mean that they are forgotten. C'mon-Friends, One Love, Funky Beat. Those 3 jams right there seals it. They stayed around after they peaked, like most artists do. I will never forgive them for I'm a Hoe. since Run & Them were saying "Here we go"

The beats on Magics Wand, top class
Same with Haunted House of Rock “If I can shoot rabbits/then I can shoot fascists”

I like their early years with jams like:
Magic's Wand Haunted House of Rock We Are Whodini Five Minutes Of Funk Big Mouth The Freaks Come Out At Night Escape However, in the late 1980s they started to bore me. They had slowed their tempo down. Andy is a four letter word.

Hell, all these new rappers wear are baseball caps (and I can't think of anything less stylish than a baseball cap, T shirt, and jeans...no imagination whatsoever). Andy is a four letter word.

They were wild as hell! They looked like an 80s version of The Village People. Today's rappers wear plan ordinary shit that you could buy at Walmart.....hell, Dollar General Store even.
