But there's no way he could be considered the "greatest", not even by his mother damn, you're sayinmg not even his own mother would say that? so what makes a great male r&b singer then?

Howard Hewett is definitely an underrated singer. He should be up there with most of the other R&B artist. I have some of his albums from when he was with shalamar and have his solo albums too. Mr.Hewett has such a wonderful singing voice,I just can't understand why he is not as popluar as the others? So sad.

He's alright, I guess I'm just not familiar with his solo beyond that one hit he had. His voice doesn't grab me, nor does he phase me in general, so I would say No. "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!

Yes, I love Howard Hewitt. When he made that jam "This Ring", that was it for me, plus he's gorgeous.

prodigalfan said: Don't get me wrong. I LOVED HH in Shalamar... but they were not strong singers. you know what I mean? They were the whole package deal... cute, sing and dance well... but not experts or the ultimate in any one of those areas.
You're being way too harsh in your critique of Howard Hewett. Despite primarily singing dance-oriented uptempo songs with Shalamar, Hewett generally was well respected for his vocal talents. Arguably his shining moment in the group came with the memorable ballad, "The Lover in You." As a solo act and moving away from the dance-oriented stuff, Hewett has shown his skills on songs such as "I'm for Real," "Say Amen," "Once, Twice, Three Times," "Show Me," "Jesus" and "Shadow." I definitely would not go far as to say he is the greatest R&B singer ever -- fine voice, good range, not a ton of vocal creativity -- but he is certainly better than average. THE TRAFFIC JAMMERS, The Org's house band: VAINANDY -- lead singer; NAJEE -- bass; THE AUDIENCE -- guitar; PHUNKDADDY -- rhythm guitar; ALEX de PARIS -- keyboards; Da PRETTYMAN -- keyboards; FUNKENSTEIN -- drums.
