If you're a male, I doubt she would care anyway.

apparently she's having a few bad gigs, if you judge by the forum at freemyheart.com

very short set (45 minutes), bad sound, displeasure with the band, lots of fuck ups, barely any bass playing by her, etc.

I can only speak for ATL.

I know she is trying to do something different and move into some new music. Fine and good. My issue wasn't with her not doing any of her old stuff (of course I would have loved to hear some old cuts). My issue was/is with the attitude.

The opening act says the tour kicked off wrong (check out her myspace page. He has a comment on her page). And I understand completely about the flash photo stuff. she just could have handled her anger better.

It's all good though. "Forgiveness and love" as her song says.

And I think MeShell is sexy. LoL

I'm not superficial like that usually but if I don't like someone I'm not gonna sit there pretending they are. I don't feel like all women should conform to the social construction of femininity and beauty standards, but meshell is just not attractive to me, period!

You insult the woman by caller her a man and say you dislike her because of how she looks...but you're not superficial. Wow!

Are Balance or spooky still around these parts? Are they still associated with her? Maybe they could shed some light (though I doubt they would).

I'm sad to hear this but not surprised. The last time I saw her was a few years ago at the Park West in Chicago and I remember being VERY disappointed along with much of the crowd, many of whom left early. She seemed really disenchanted and somber. I remember it was a Friday night and everyone was ready to have a blast, but all she played was sad or slow songs. I also noted that she didn't play bass much either, which was a HUGE disappointment. The place was waiting to explode but it never happened. The set was short as well. I used to see her religiously in Chicago, but after that I skipped her next couple of visits, one of which I heard was the Jamaa thing that caught many in the audience by surprise. I'm not feeling the new EP either. Unfortunately, something seems to have gone awry. This pains me because she was one of my FAVORITE artists. However, it seems that she's fallen into an abyss that she can't seem to play herself out of. sad

this is why, despite (at various times) being a big fan of her, i've never had the urge to see her live.

i get a bad attitude vibe from most of her interviews, and i don't want to further tarnish my love of her music by experiencing it first hand. confused

People who follow her music are surprised by this? I don't understand. She's a really miserable person, she's got a massive chip on her shoulder, and her babble about spirituality is just a bunch of crap. Anyone who has come in contact with her knows that. Sort of like Prince, these people who preach acceptance and love for one another and "bland" spirituality are usually the biggest assholes.

Normally Id say your generalizations are too strong..but after spending a few weeks with her on tour I 100% agree with you !

I've always felt that she's not as good as she thinks she is.

And I also have a musician friend in NY who has had (in his words) the "displeasure" to be around her many times.

I didn't see any of her cd's at the show.

I would hope her sexuality would have absolutely nothing to do with them performing with her. That would be insane!

And wow, I haven't read many interviews but the few I read seemed pretty positive. That's too bad.

She was part of the Montrex Jazz fest here in ATL last year and did a free set. If i'm not mistaken it was almost identical to the one I paid for...except she was much nicer for the free gig. LoL

I just wonder if she is going thru something mentally, like a depression.
You just never know.

I'm not pissed like other folks. I do feel like my money was wasted (and money DOES matter 2nite 4 me~LoL) but I'm not mad. I just hope the sista is okay and will work whatever out so she can get back to the positive thang.

Ah well... We're only human after all... (anyone here like Level 42? LoL)
