well people think hendrix was the first guitar player ever to use wah wah effect on record but it was due to the fact that jimi hendrix expiriance record was out little bit before creams "tales of brave ulyssis" but eric record first.

Also before Clapton, Frank Zappa recorded with a wah wah pedal. Maybe not before Chet, but he certainly did it before Clapton and Jimi. smile

Frank used to sit so he could use 2 wahs at the same time

Scooter

Eric Clapton is quite possibly the greatest rock guitarist of all time. ( Behind Hendrix)

eric clapton has remained true to his roots. if you listen to interviews with him, he characterizes himself as a blues guitar player, and that is what he does. if fact if you read or hear a lot of interviews with him over the years, he is very humble about his playing, he does not set himself up as some sort of brilliant player. in fact he is riddled with self doubt. it is reviewers and fans, that started that "clapton is god" and all that sort of thing. your initial statement, would be like saying john lee hooker never "progressed". he loves the blues, he plays the blues. he has occasionally dabbled in other styles, but always returns to what he loves.

Good post! Definitely agreee with you, though I've never been totally impressed by Clapton's playing. Cats like Andy Summers and Jeff Beck mop the floor with Eric in my opinion.
cool

I get bored listening to the blues unless it's SRV.

Each to their own, but while SRV was good technically, to me he is to the blues what the Doobie Brothers or David Bowie are to funk (hell, Bowie and SRV made 'Let's Dance' together, didn't they? A cool track, actually. Wierd co-incidence). Technical proficiency ain't where it's at when it comes to the blues. It's all about the feeling. smile

Hopefully...

...if Jeff Beck shows again, he'll allow his segment to make the next DVD.

That looks very much like Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top in front of Mr Beck in that pick. He is also one of my favourate blues-rock axemen, and much underrated in these parts, I find. Like Jimi and others, he likes his tech. gizmos, but imo he has the 'feel' too. And he even has a sense of humour in his songs and playing, something you could never accuse Eric Clapton and many others of biggrin

It looks like Jeff and Billy are jammin' together. Might have been some interesting sounds ...

Mind you, Billy has his hands in his pockets, so maybe he's just checkin' out Jeff's riff-ola - or 'Beck-ola', even cool.

I can almost feel a caption coming on ...

This was taken at the Crossroads Festival during a rehearsal.
Beck was supposed to jam with ZZ Top during their closing performance.
Billy was reacting to a "vicious lick" Beck spit out while they were "trading fours".

Jeff also did a set for the Crossroads gig but was unhappy with his performance and didn't allow it to be included in the DVD.

A good friend of mine went to that show and while wandering around the festival grounds, stumbled upon a tent where Beck and Clapton were rehearsing Definitely Maybe eek
