Madonna's "Erotica" (Confessions Tour Version) - appreciation thread

This is one of the few moments when I reveals the true madonna fan that I am (I love everything the bitch does...even LAV album! But I have to be hip at the org and pretend that I hate the woman!)

One of the highest moments of the CT.

I like it, but the reworking that really did it for me was the acoustic rendering of Paradise (Not For Me) ... Does anyone know if there's a good live audio-file (or even better: studio version) of that out there somewhere?

Yes, Stuart did a great job of the new musical arrangements of the old songs. Now if only she brought back the Girlie Show drummer.

Omar Hakim, and the Bassist - Victor Bailey, were part of a funk group called Weather Report (i think). They were amazing, by far the best she's worked with, and I really miss them. Here's a little bit from an interview he gave about how they came to work for M:

"If it’s a groove thing like Madonna was, it’s going to be a GROOVE thing...capital letters, please." The Madonna gig came after her 1992 appearance on "Saturday Night Live." As Victor explains, "They were just putting a rhythm section together for her appearance on the show and she knew who we were and asked the musical director to see if he could get us. So we did that show and she really enjoyed it and she said at the time ´Whenever I do a tour, I’m gonna use you guys.´ And we were surprised at how hip she was. I mean, like, at the end of a songs at rehearsal we’d play certain things and she’d turn around and say, ´Don’t play that Weather Report shit at the end of any tune. 'And we both said to her, ´You know about that?´ And she sure did."

Madonna worked with them right up to Ray Of Light promo tours (Remember the acoustic "Little Star" she did on Oprah?), but they were sadly out for the DWT.

Going back to the original point - yes, Erotica on the CT was AMAZING. I personally think she should have released it to promote the CT CD/DVD. Its classic Stuart, the way it builds. I think that if Stuart stayed on board, but with a stronger band, her live performance would be enhanced a long way.

Thanks for that info! I'm not the least bit surprised that Madonna knows who Weather Report is.She listens to alot of different styles of music....people would be surprised if they knew all of her many influences.

Hopefully, now that she's making an album with alot of R&B on it,she will put together another Girlie Show-type band (with funky, jazzy musicians).

Amen to that. I've never been fond of this band she has now, but while stuart is still on board I really cant see her getting rid. I feel she's taken this sound as far as she can, and if she's moving in a different direction now - she needs to make the music more fierce. I've had a major problem with the fact that there isn't a designated Bass player on her last 3 tours, and I've never liked Steve Sidylnek (or whatever his name is) as a drummer - far too lightweight.

That said - i just cant see her changing it. Erotica was a perfect album for the jazz/funk/dance fusion those guys played, but she probably feels this band is better suited to the dance leanings of her current work.

She'd have to get rid of Stuart and Jamie King, before that would happen.
