RAGE is back - Just when we need them the most!

I'm so glad this band is back together, a voice that needs to be heard!
The only band that really get's me angry and sometimes I forget and after a while listning, people are like, "what's the matter?" lol

"F*&k YOU I WON'T DO WHAT YOU TELL ME!"

What's the Org think about Rage Against The Machine?

Seven years after the quartet broke up following de la Rocha's departure, the band returned with a vengeance to close out the three-day festival east of Palm Springs.

Stomping, shouting into his microphone, grabbing his curly hair and inciting the audience to "keep fighting," de la Rocha powered through songs ranging from the bass heavy "Bulls on Parade" to the anthem "Killing in the Name."

He also railed against the war in Iraq and likened Bush administration officials to Nazi war criminals.

"This current administration is no exception. They should be tried and hung and shot," he said.

Drummer Brad Wilk, bassist Tim Commerford and guitarist Tom Morello, who wore a hat with the word "UNITY" on it, completed the lineup.

i always thought they were radicals without a cause. it's like, they had the image and energy of a really angry political band, but they never really drove their issues home to audiences as effectively as, say, U2 or R.E.M. or even the really "out there" political groups like Dead Kennedys or Consolidated.

i like some of their music but i always felt their rage was 80% fashion, 20% passion.

maybe this time around they'll prove me wrong, and i hope they do.

wasn't that at lollapalooza? i'm guessing there wasn't a huge PMRC faction there. and that's just a sock drawer away from what RHCP used to do all the time, just because.

anyway, hell, if i had bods like them, i'd pose naked for rolling stone's random notes column too. lol

i dig they were trying to make people aware of different issues.but the music itself always kinda sucked. and Tom Morello always got on my nerves.

I was a big fan of Lock Up back in the day, never got way into Rage, however. I like some of their songs tho.

i was going to say "i think they're a bunch of malcontents that never met a 'cause' they couldn't turn to their own advantage. plus their music wasn't very good, unless you were a 13 to 24 year old boy."

While I kind of agree with you as far as actually doing something rather than just being vocal, I'm missing the fashion angle. Everytime I've every seen them they were in T-shirts and shorts. Usually camoflauge and cmbat boots shrug

A fan I see...

falloff

I guess if I had my choice of a message reaching the masses ("Fuck You, I won't Do What You Tell Me", for example) and I could do something indi and still reach them I would but that doesn't seem too realistic when you thing about the corporate promotion machine.

I think they should let their actions speak for them and still keep asking the questions that the media doesn't seem to cover.

We'll agree to disagree. It's riff based tunes with an agression that has yet to be touched. The guitarist makes weird noises that are a little irritating but nobody is actually, sincerely, as pissed off as Zach. headbang

I just popped in "The Battle for Los Angeles" in honor of this thread. They've brought a level of awareness to issues like Mumia Abu Jamal, the Zapatistas, US/Cuban relations, Amnesty International, WTO, etc. I think they've inspired their audience to research and come to their own conclusions about a lot of issues that Zach brings to the table(lyrically). Plus from what Ive seen, they cant be fucked with live, either.

I dig em. cool

they need a message American Youth can relate to, talking about a tribe in Mexico isn't going to get them interested in politics

talking about the war will.

they already did eight years ago. same stage, (a few) different players:
- from the album"THe Battle of Los Angeles- released in 1999 -

Testify

The movie ran through me
The glamour subdue me
The tabloid untie me
I'm empty please fill me
Mister anchor assure me
That Baghdad is burning
Your voice it is so soothing
That cunning mantra of killing
I need you my witness
To dress this up so bloodless
To numb me and purge me now
Of thoughts of blaming you
Yes the car is our wheelchair
My witness your coughing
Oily silence mocks the legless
Now traveling in coffins
But on the corner
The jury's sleepless
We found your weakness
And it's right outside our door

Now testify

With precision you feed me
My witness I'm hungry
Your temple it calms me

So I can carry on
My slaving sweating the skin right off my bones
On a bed of fire I'm choking on the smoke that fills my home
The wrecking ball rushing
My witness your blushing
The pipeline is gushing
While here we lie in tombs
While on the corner
The jury's sleepless
We found your weakness
And it's right outside your door

Now testify

Mass graves for the pump and the price is set

Who controls the past now controls the future
Who controls the present now controls the past
Who controls the past now controls the future
Who controls the present now?

Now testify

Yeah...says you...

Boring? I guess you've never seen a live show, sorry, not so much.

Comments on the administration for shock value? lol Bill Maher/Keith Obermann both have been saying these things for at least four years that I know of...so maybe what they're saying is shock value for people who find it shocking, the rest of us have been saying the same thing for years but that a conversation for the P&R forum.

Crimes against humanity (the killing of thousands of innocent people) are war crimes. Period. They need to be held accountable, that's all I see he's saying and I agree 100%. Mental problems? Try denial isn't just a river in Egypt.
