RAGE is back - Just when we need them the most! I'm so glad this band is back together, a voice that needs to be heard!
The only band that really get's me angry and sometimes I forget and after a while listning, people are like, "what's the matter?" 
"F*&k YOU I WON'T DO WHAT YOU TELL ME!" What's the Org think about Rage Against The Machine? Seven years after the quartet broke up following de la Rocha's departure, the band returned with a vengeance to close out the three-day festival east of Palm Springs.
Stomping, shouting into his microphone, grabbing his curly hair and inciting the audience to "keep fighting," de la Rocha powered through songs ranging from the bass heavy "Bulls on Parade" to the anthem "Killing in the Name." He also railed against the war in Iraq and likened Bush administration officials to Nazi war criminals. "This current administration is no exception. They should be tried and hung and shot," he said. Drummer Brad Wilk, bassist Tim Commerford and guitarist Tom Morello, who wore a hat with the word "UNITY" on it, completed the lineup. | |

i always thought they were radicals without a cause. it's like, they had the image and energy of a really angry political band, but they never really drove their issues home to audiences as effectively as, say, U2 or R.E.M. or even the really "out there" political groups like Dead Kennedys or Consolidated.
i like some of their music but i always felt their rage was 80% fashion, 20% passion. maybe this time around they'll prove me wrong, and i hope they do. | |

I was a big fan of Lock Up back in the day, never got way into Rage, however. I like some of their songs tho.

While I kind of agree with you as far as actually doing something rather than just being vocal, I'm missing the fashion angle. Everytime I've every seen them they were in T-shirts and shorts. I guess if I had my choice of a message reaching the masses ("Fuck You, I won't Do What You Tell Me", for example) and I could do something indi and still reach them I would but that doesn't seem too realistic when you thing about the corporate promotion machine. I think they should let their actions speak for them and still keep asking the questions that the media doesn't seem to cover. | |

It's riff based tunes with an agression that has yet to be touched. The guitarist makes weird noises that are a little irritating but nobody is actually, sincerely, as pissed off as Zach. I just popped in "The Battle for Los Angeles" in honor of this thread.They've brought a level of awareness to issues like Mumia Abu Jamal, the Zapatistas, US/Cuban relations, Amnesty International, WTO, etc. I think they've inspired their audience to research and come to their own conclusions about a lot of issues that Zach brings to the table(lyrically). Plus from what Ive seen, they cant be fucked with live, either.

Bill Maher/Keith Obermann both have been saying these things for at least four years that I know of...so maybe what they're saying is shock value for people who find it shocking, the rest of us have been saying the same thing for years but that a conversation for the P&R forum.
