let's talk Roy Orbison 4 a while... hey,
It's been a while since Mr. Orbison was comming through my speakers, but I'm playing 'mystery girl' right now and the greatnes of Roy Orbison is hitting me in the face once again. 'California blue' is one of the greatest songs ever...bar none! Think i'm going to give his old 'sun' material another spin tonight as well. It's been too long! I'm not sure where the magic comes from...I think it's that weird 'sinatra meets rockabilly' vibe he's got going. To think he started out with cash and elvis, sure chose a different path yet the simmilarities between roy and johnny are plain to see. think I'll give 'the class of 55' another listen as well. anyone alse care to share their appreciation (or something else) for mr orbisons music? grtz kev1n It was not in vain...it was in Minneapolis!

i've yet to add any Roy Orbison to my collection, apart from a song or two on a compilation. i think when the song "Pretty Woman" had a comeback (due to the film) and i heard that damn song everywhere, i didn't want to hear his voice again. but my boss threw some Orbison on the other day and it was
i love Chris Isaak and you can definitely hear Roy's influence all over his albums. LOVE ♪♫♪♫ ♣¤═══¤۩۞۩ஜ۩ஜ۩۞۩¤═══¤♣

Roy Orbison is one of my favourate singers - A unique, moving voice, and an underrated songwriter.
His '60s work is classic beyond question, but I would say perhaps his best individual album would be 'Mystery Girl', a wonderful record, with the famous 'You Got It', while good, being possibly the weakest track imo. I agree, he probably sits somewhere between Johnny Cash and Elvis, with a dash of Buddy Holly in his vague nerdishness, if ya'll get ma drift. Yet, he's also beyond them and sometimes I think he's the better singer of them. When I hear his voice, it always impresses me just how good he really was. For some reason, Orbison doesn't seem to get the respect around here he deserves. He prob. hides the funk too well. [Edited 5/1/07 14:46pm]
