BB King is 77: The Blues Thread...

BB King is 77 today and a true legend I am fortunate enough to have seen in concert. Your favourite blues artists and albums?

much Props to BB King.Loved His Album at "cook County Jail" back in 1971 that He did Live.Classic BB.also His Album with Bobby "Blue" Bland back in 76-77 is a must have.I dig so many Blues Artists that I'd turn Blue Naming them all.Robert Johnson's Box Set might be my Favorite overall.but then again anything by Howlin Wolf,Buddy Guy,Blind Lemon Johnson,T-Bone Walker,Bessie Smith,Muddy Waters,Bo Diddley,etc.. are high on my list as well.I have BB's Book that He did with David Ritz very much on time.He is a Very down to Earth Cat.

BB has one of the most powerful voices known to man...

Ever notice BB doesn't play rhythm? Just lead for "Blues Boy"...

I remember when BB had a short role on General Hospital back in the early 90s...

I have BB's box set, and this man swings hard. Most folks my age (and some older ones) have a stereotypical view of the Blues because their expsoure to it is limited. BB has done many blues styles: jump blues, blues rock, a little rural blues, and Chicago Blues...and even some R&B.

People who like the blues and aren't really hip to BB should really, really check his material out. And not the Clapton collaboration...I've only heard a couple of songs but I don't feel it represents him. People like BB shouldn't be taken for granted. Especially at his age.
This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Yeah Robert Johnson's "Complete Recordings" 2CD set is probably the finest blues ever recorded.

Yeah BB's autobiography is a good read. I have a BB King collection and his "Deuces Wild" collaboration album. Collections by Diddley, Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, Buddy Guy etc too...

My fave bluesman is Howlin Wolf. I love that nasty voice and his sound is so fucking fat. Muddy Waters comes a close second.

BBKing is the KING of the blues...
I like it when he says..."Nobody loves me but my mama,
and she could be jivin' too."
My favoritesong by him...The Thrill is Gone.
Second: Why I Sing the Blues...
Favorite lines from that song:

"I laid in a ghetto flat...cold and numb
I heard tha rats tell the bedbugs
To give the roaches some...
And everybody wanna know...Why I sing the blues.
I been aroun' a long time...and I really paid some dues.

So...how's everybody doing? smile

I've seen BB 7 times and he's the best performer I've ever seen live. Beats even Prince for stage presence. Sorry but that's the way it is biggrin

Love the guy to bits ... last time I saw him he said he'd be doing the touring and singing till he dies. I hope he gets his wish. He's a lovely guy and a brilliant musician. His autobiography is well worth reading too ... really interesting.
