I agree nod Plus,I never liked "Heartbreak Hotel".That song is silly and creepy, lol.Another small problem with 'Triumph': several songs sound alike ("Walk Right Now" and "Lovely One").

though I love triumph I have to admit it grew on me, unlike destiny which I loved right away and was pleasantly surprised with. I'd known shake your body and blame it on the boogie for years already when I bought the CD and expected all filler but I was way off

What??? All Night Dancin' is my favorite song from that album!

I love both albums, but Destiny would win the award for the best Jacksons-album.

These two aren't the best if we're including the Jackson 5. If we're talking under the title "The Jacksons", which I believe u are Krazie, then damn, this is a good question. I love both albums to death. Of course the production on Triumph is superior. "Heartbreak Hotel" has to be the best song The Jacksons had ever done. "Can You Feel It" is a monster too. BUT, the whole "Destiny" album is flawless. Very versatile. I can't pick. Good thread though.

'Lovely One' is just a rip off of 'Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground', isn't it?

Singing it in your head you can mix them up lol

"You are my, you are my, Shake your body down to the ground..."

"Let's dance, let's shout, You are my lovely one..."

Here's a direct bite. The Jacksons cut from 76 "Enjoy Yourself". Then much later, the cut "I Know What Boys Like" is exactly the same. Same hook, same melody and same guitar.

How can "Lovely One" be a ripoff if it was released first?

Edit, my bad, Destiny came out first. I should have known that.

I love both but "Triumph" has This Place Hotel, Time Waits For No One, Walk Right Now & Show You The Way To Go which are some of my fave songs ever so I have to go with Triumph.

Are you sure you have this album because "Show You The Way To Go" was on their Jacksons album from 76.

Lol yeah I do have the album but I haven't listned to it in ages. For some reason I thought I remembered "Show You The Way To Go" being on "Triumph" but you're right it was on The Jacksons self titled album.
"And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ heart

So what would you consider their best album. I must admit I really like "Going Places". And I think one of their best albums overall was their "Third album", the maturity Michael conveys on that album is unbelievable for someone who was so young.

michael himself admitted in the moonwalk book that those two sounded similar and that triumph was a fusion of the destiny & off the wall sound, which I could totally hear

Triumph is a stronger and better produced album than Destiny, but Shake your body and Blame it on the boogie are better than any song of Triumph, including Can you feel it

I think the best songs off both albums were the least commercial songs. I notice in general, the record company whether Motown or Epic, would release their most commercial sounding songs. The gems of a lot of their material were the songs that were never release; Time Waits for No One, For Being Polite, etc. Even with Motown, they only reason their music was called "Bubblegum" was because of songs like ABC and Rockin Robin, which were the songs most likely to be release. In my opinion there was nothing "bubblegum" about songs like Darling Dear and Looking Through the Windows. A

omg I totally agree with you on the motown thing! Though I like their popular hits, I know there's way more to them than that. DR presents j5, get it together, skywriter, music & me and dancing machine all have underrated gems that people on KOP board won't even give a chance!

Tough choice. I like songs from each. Can U Feel It from Triumph and Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)from Destiny.
Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

I enjoy both albums, and although I think Destiny is the superior album (Triumph sounds a little dated) I find myself listening to Triumph more than Destiny.

But I love 'Blame It On The Boogie' to death. Nice harmonizing by the brothers on that song. And of course 'Shake Your Body' is an all time funk classic.

Blame it on the Boogie is my all time fave Jacksons track. That song just gets me movin everytime I hear it. However, as an album Triumph is just pure bliss.

Aw hell...both of them rock.

Good points and I agree witcha on both accounts. That said, the best album by the J5 is Maybe Tomorrow. The songwriting, the musicianship, the production, was miles ahead of what they had done before. And it wasn't captured again. Runner up would be Michael's first solo album "Got To Be There".

TRIUMPH. My fave Jackson album, including solo. Just a super strong post-disco record from start to finish. Sadly overlooked.

disbelief at folks picking Triumph.
Although it has some great songs, it’s just too messy. “Can You Feel It” is just trite and borders on corny. “Your Ways” is a bad song with even worse production. “Everybody” is just a bad remake of MJ’s “Get On The Floor”, which is also not that great a song. lol

Side 2 (for those vinyl lovers) starts off fantastic, but “Walk Right Now” is an awful attempt to recapture the funk and energy of “All Night Dancin’”, “Give It Up” never reaches its potential, and “Wondering Who” completely ruins it at the end.

Now for the good songs on Triumph
Ellie was almost right. However, “Lovely One” is actually a re-work of “Things I Do For You” and “Working Day and Night”, but for those reasons it’s a great song, especially to dance to. “Heartbreak Hotel” (despite what Jackoheadz say about “Billie Jean”) is Michael’s crowning achievement as a songwriter, arranger, and producer, so much so that he drove the song’s theme into the ground with “Billie Jean”, “Dirty Diana”, “Dangerous”, etc., possibly to re-capture that in the zone feeling of ”This is IT!”
Or either he just hates women.
“Time Waits For No One” is flawless, PERIOD, and MJ should have continued to perform this song throughout his career right after “She’s Out Of My Life”. Dumb bastid.

But Destiny is simply a better body of work, more honest, cohesive, soulful, arranged and produced better, and its aged far much better than Triumph because it’s a Soul/R&B album where Triumph ,coming off the heels of OTW, was a blatant attempt at post disco-era Pop. (Can you say “Celebration” by Kool and The Gang”? barf )

I think the success of OTW and the tour are the reasons why folks prefer Triumph. Hell, I remember I almost peed on my myself to learn that “Michael Jackson is back with his brothers”. But Destiny is a better than Triumph for a lot of the same reasons that OTW is better than Thriller.

fro I know you got sooooouuul. HEY! ‘Cause if you didn’t you wouldn’t be in here!
I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!
