Mavis on Tavis

...No gossip in this conversation. Just a musical/social history lesson.

Topics included:
The story behind her new album...

...We'll Never Turn Back

Martin Luther King
Mahalia Jackson
Curtis Mayfield
Bob Dylan

How I'll Take You There put them on the outs (and then back in) with their church.
How "Pops" initially didn't want to record his vocal on Let's Do It Again.

And then she sang On My Way.
Mavis just sang. No band, no backing track & no vocal aids or stage gimmickery.
She has the voice of a mature, wise and experienced woman .
And a mature, wise and experienced woman is always a good thing to see these days.

Since it just aired last night, the full transcript and complete video hasn't been posted yet.
Check here periodically, it's worth it.: http://www.pbs.org/kcet/t...70426.html

We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color.

Mavis is amazing. And, yes, Harle, beautiful, to boot.

Jealous!
I wish she would perform some more in Europe. Her voice is still beautiful, as is she.
