i reckon there are two cover versions i've heard pulled off nicely: tori amos, and this black comedian dude who did a parody of it once. can't remember what it was called. but it sounded surprisingly fantastic!

Her Purple Rain performance at the Grammy's was the only time I've ever seen Prince upstaged.

Beyonce delivered the second chorus in such an electric way that for the first time I FELT the angst and heartbreak in the song.

I also realize that the song plays hella good as a duet. Better than solo. Especially since its about two former friends who let their closeness, affection and chemistry tumble into a regrettable weekend affair that made it impossible for them to even be friends again. sad We need both the male and female voice in this song.

Nevertheless I don't think she should cover it UNLESS ITS A DUET WITH PRINCE.

She breathed new life into that song.

And um, she DOES NOT have thunder thighs.
sad

I didn't like it either. It was just so unecessary confused (to me, but maybe necessary for him to get the attention of the youngins ill )

Yeah, I was enjoying Prince's set until that siren came on and ruined the whole damn thing.

People cover Purple Rain all the time.

Take a stroll down Nashville's music streets at night, and you'll hear folks of all stripes belting it out (guitar solos and all). It's an archetypal country song, after all.

hi just thinkin of the grammy's when the purple one dueted with Beyonce and it got me thinkin,,,, should she do her own cover of purple rain?
she really was fantastic on stage with him, i'm sure he would give it to her.

If THIS is about Prince needing the royality checks so badly, then I rather Christina do a cover of PR instead of Beyonce.

I stand by this opinion because I believe Christina can sell the sadness of the lyrics a lot better than Beyonce.

That first part is very false! All Beyonce has done throughout her whole career is write EXACTLY a few word changes within a song that was already written by other songwriters/composers.

Even Beyonce's backstabbing father Matthew wouldn't even allow new & unknown songwriters to work with his daughter unless they allow her to receive writing credits regardless if she make changes to their tracks or not.
