Party friends we're here to do it again.....checkin' into Boogie Bodyland.

One of The Barkays' baddest jams is "Boogie Bodyland". Anybody into this jam from 1980?

The other day,I was driving around town and I turned on the radio. Our local R&B oldies station played "Freakshow On The Dancefloor" for the millionth time and I got pissed mad Why don't they ever play something else by the Bar Kays, like "Move Your Boogie Body","Boogie Bodyland" or "Hit And Run"?! I'm starting to dislike these R&B oldies stations....they stick to the same, tired playlists!

Furthermore,"Freakshow..." is one of my least favorite songs by them. It's a blatant rip-off of Midnight Star's "No Parking On The Dancefloor".

If you have an R&B oldies station in your area that plays jams like those, then you are lucky. The one we have only plays R&B that had crossed over and they played the same damn songs over and over until they changed their format to a pop and R&B station from the 60s and 70s. Then, they played those same damn songs over and over until they added some 80s pop.

They just don't get it. It's not the format that's the problem, it's playing the same damn songs over and over from that genre that's the problem. They act like the only song Rick James ever made was "Super Freak". They act like the only song Prince ever made was "I Wanna Be Your Lover". They act like the only song The Pointer Sisters ever made was "Jump". You can guess who owns the station.....the devil himself, Clear Channel.

apparently, this is what our station does: They pick two or three of the biggest hits by an artist or band, and play ONLY those songs over and over and over and over. They never take any chances,or play a lesser hit. They assume that listeners only want to hear the most successful hits. Here's an example of the artists and songs that they play:

PRINCE---When Doves Cry,Kiss,Erotic City,I Wanna Be Your Lover
RICK JAMES---SuperFreak,You and I,Mary Jane,Fire and Desire
THE COMMODORES---Brick House,Lady (You Bring Me Up)

Don't get me wrong,I love all those songs but how about playing Prince's "Let's Work" sometime??? How about playing Rick James' "Bustin' Out" sometime? Or The Commodores' "Slippery When Wet"?? Or "Too Hot Ta Trot"??

good topic for another thread,lol

Back in the day, we had an R&B station called WKXI that played all the latest funk of the era. That station is still around today but now it's format is "Soft Soul". During the week, they play nothing but boring Shitney Houston type music.

However.....on Saturday afternoons, there is one particular DJ that throws down the old school funk, disco, and slow jams. He plays some of everything. I've even heard vinyl pops in some of the songs so he really pulled out some jams (I'm sure they recorded the vinyl onto CDs so they could put the songs in their computer). If they jammed like that all the time, instead of just Saturday afternoons, we would have a damn good station because this guy is good.

we have one soul station. it plays a lot of depressing slow songs. then they have the nerve to throw one fast record in after ten slow ones. we have another that plays oldies free for alls and it is just as bad. we have several old pop stations that keep the day going.

I know what you guys mean as far as the r&b stations playing the same songs over and over but it is not that bad in charlotte particularly on friday nights when they play all the jams from back in the day. They often dig deep in the crates and pull out stuff like glide by pleasue, just wanna make love to you by sun, move your boogie body by the barkays, etc. Check your local radio stations and see if they offer something similar on friday or saturday nights.

That's the way they do down here also and it pisses me off. They need to go back to like they used to do in the 70s and 80s.....10 or 12 fast songs, 2 slow songs, then back to 10 or 12 fast songs.

We have those also. We have one station that has a slogan....."JACK FM...We play what we want to play"....they play anything pop and rock from three decades. However, the 90s is one of the decades they play and I have to change the station every time they play a 90s song because it depresses the hell out of me. I hated the 90s. lol

About two years ago, we had one of the best stations we have had in a long time. On Saturday nights, they played nothing but old school funk from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. .....and they beat mixed and overlapped the songs. I was having an absolute musical orgasm until they changed their format to country.

Sounds cool! I wish our local station would play some rare, forgotten jams like that. When I was in Chicago a few years ago,I found a cool R&B oldies station and it was much better than the one we have here in Cali. They actually played "Freaky Deaky" by Roy Ayers!! I nearly lost my mind, lol.
