So does Van Hunt still have a label or not? I heard on here that he was dropped but then there is talk about him recording and releasing a new album ready for the summer.
What's going on? | |

What's going on? Fuck, I hope he's releasing something soon. Is there anything about it on his MySpace page?

I remember those threads with people trying to convince you to give him a chance! WElcome to the light! I've heard that he got dropped from Capitol, but Capitol went under so I wouldn't doubt it. He actually ran out of money while he was on tour behind On The Jungle Floor, and had to cancel the last leg of his tour. Apparently he decided to start recording another record with that time he would have been on the road, and it makes sense that it'd be released in the summer. Can't Wait!!

WHEN did Capitol "go under"? last i checked, the Capitol Music Group is alive and well. now, Van may not be on Capitol anymore but fear not he's got a new label home (which is one of the most historic labels in the US) and will be releasing a new album this fall. so, stay tuned. http://www.facebook.com/p...111?ref=ts

If he's putting out another album, I sure hope it gets more promo than Jungle Floor!
No wonder the poor guy runs outta cash. I don't remember hearing a single song from the last album on the radio or any videos. Frankly, if not for the org, I wouldn't have know it was out So uh, thanks guys If you will, so will I

Capitol Music Group was just formed in Febuary of this year. It was a merger made by EMI of Capitol Records and Virgin Records. Capitol Records still exists but its a sub-babel now. I don't know if Van is still signed or not. The industry hates and is threatened by real talent, so he may not be.

Or any uptempo housey/disco type stuff (however, not trance/acid sounding stuff)? That's the kind of jams I'm looking for. Andy is a four letter word.

One could debate in today's music industry whether artists who aren't from American Idol or straight pop crap (ala Black Eyed Peas or Akon) can get a fair shake by some of the majors because they don't sell. Capitol isn't a "sub-label". It's an imprint now, which isn't a new thing in the music industry. It didn't "go under". Ironically i am listening to van hunt's debut cd right now. I like van hunt's first cd better than the second but the second is still cool. The first cd is slamming. My favorites second of pleasure, down here in hell with you, hello goodbye, highlights, who will love me in winter.
Vainandy,if you like sly stone you would like hello goodbye, highlights, and out of the sky. The rest of the album is a mixed bag of neo soul and a little lenny kravitz. It is what is unique about his first album you don't get the same sound throughout. I would love to see him come out with a new album this fall because i sure as hell ain't buying the bullshit that's coming out now. Don't laugh at my funk

Excuse my mis-catergorization of what Capitol is now; imprint, subsidiary of EMI...whatever. It still sits under Capitol Music Group. Anyone who disagrees can google it. I didn't say that it went under. Regardless of the terminology, its all bullshit ways for labels to hire, fire redistribute and shuffle money. The industry is utter crap and is always reorganizing in order to accomodate the messes they make. People are sick of talentless or marginally talented bimbos and himbos singing cookie-cutter 3:30 commerical jingles about nothing. The "industry" created this formula and has been sticking to it for quite some time now because they can control it but that's another topic. I'm happy for Van if he has a new label. Good for him. Hopefully, they will try harder than his old one did to promote him properly.

While cathcy - I never thought Being a Girl was a good song to be playing live as he did on Letterman, Craig Ferguson (or Kimmel, or Conan, or Leno).
...VainAndy - I think you will like If I Take You Home, and Hot Stage Lights from his Jungle Floor album. From the first album - you might dig Hello Goodbye.

Hopefully, they will try harder than his old one did to promote him properly. i didn't disagree, i just corrected you. and i know you weren't the one that said that Capitol "went under", someone else did i just responded in the one e-mail to both issues. the industry is in transition. i wish that you were correct about people being sick of talentless or marginally talented bimbos, but to be honest you're not. i wish you were. if you look at the Billboard charts every week, you see what's selling and what's not. if you listen to the radio, you know what's selling and what's not. so you can't put it ALL on the labels that sign and try to market artists like Van, Nikka Costa, Esthero, and the like and it's just that the media isn't in a place where they care about talented and original sounding artists anymore. i dare say that if Prince were a new artist today, i don't think he'd get a record deal. the industry didn't "create" this formula, it evolved here. if you want to assign a large part of the blame the beginning of the state of the current industry began with the corporate takeovers of radio stations. that began the whole thing. http://www.facebook.com/p...111?ref=ts
