Plus ITunes is great for those times when you wanna hear your good shit w/ some variety (via the playlists).

I've had an iPod since 2001. They're excellent! I ordered one the day it was released because I saw how great it was immediately. I'd hate to be without it.
BTW, most people with iPods fill them with tracks ripped from CD. There's nothing saying you have to download tracks from the iTunes Store. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

I used to own a couple of ipods, but they weren't a touch on other brands. Archos are ahead of Apple by years.
The ipod, in typical Apple fashion just rips off other people. I switched to a walkman phone recently. Brilliant. Why have two devices, when I can have one, and I don't have to sell a kidney to do it, unlike the iphone. .

YUP It seems like a lot of people think their only choice for putting music on the IPod is to download it - I don't know where that idea comes from (I guess the very strong association between IPods, ITunes & the ITunes store). Yes, downloading from ITunes is ONE option to get music on the thing, but I ripped my entire cd collection to ITunes just to have it all in there. So the selection is my cd's AND whatever I choose to download, but you don't have to download anything. I know YOU know all this, but seems like people use that as an excuse not to get an IPod & they're totally ignoring that they can access their entire cd library like they can w/ any other mp3 player.

All of my walkmans for cassette long since stopped working last decade. I've been getting by on my Discman: But recently it started spinning very LOUDLY... sounded like it was rewinding a damn cassette, even with brand new batteries. Well yesterday, I had a CD playing... and the spinning got quieter and quieter, until it finally stopped spinning. The display was stuck on " 02 --:-- " as if it was trying to find its place in the song. But it had finally stopped spinning altogether. Sony Sports Discman 2001-2007 ... may you rest in peace. It's alright. These things happen. I had one, too. Mine died, too. I don't have an ipod, but I'd like to get a nano.

I listen to everything on my home computer with professional studio earphones. Can't be bothered with a nano, or whatever. For me it's listening "quality" as well as good tunes. Good music comes through best with good earphones, and the ones you need to really hear everything in a quality setting are large and cup the ear to drown out outside noise.
If I'm travelling I'll consider and mp3 player, but I'm bringing my studio phones. www.myspace.com/marktgrimshaw

The only time I download something is when that's the only option. My habit for buying CDs continues to pick up speed. This leads me to think that I should replace my discman with another discman. But then I think about being on that airplane flying coach, and having 30 CDs in my lap. Sure it was "easier" to just grab those cds and go. But having a discman to listen to those things... it wasn't necessarily a better listening experience since I didn't bring bigger headphones, and the media was so damn bulky I am considering having an iPod (I have an iMac) and getting in the habit of adding the CDs I want. Then again I don't want to fill my computer hard drive space with a bunch of CDs that are filling real space.

i didn't own an iPod until last year... i only got it b/c i was going to Grad bash. I kept thinking- do I really want to carry 2 cases of CDs, batteries and bulky headphones? And I would have had 2 take it inside the park- and I SO did not want to do that. So I saw everyone with iPods, and I asked my parents if I could get one. I never ask for anything other than books- so tey said yes. Went to Brandsmart, picked up a random 1 and its all good. I still buy CDs though. I only use my iPod for outside the house, and inside the house its strictly CDs and the Oldies radio.
And I do own a cell phone... but I never wanted 1. I curse the day I ever got that wretched thing. It has brought me nothing but pain. "So shall it be written, so shall it be sung..."

Love my ipod.
Working, waiting, driving, always got it on shuffle of 13,000 songs. Then I got the video ipod and now why I'm waiting at the DMV or at a doctor's office, I'm watching movies. Still own cd's, still own a ton of vinyl but I'm not going to limit myself, ever. Hopefully, NWF these things will come in time for you. P/S - Remember when I mailed you my Clash cds? cars are being built now with ipod ready stereos
anyone know if you can just get that installed if you don't have it already? i've seen the ones you hook up through a radio station (Belkin)or whatever but the sound quality isn't cd quality and when travelling the sound will cut out if the radio station cuts out just curious love my ipod....one of the greatest inventions ever next to the cell phone

I like my Dell 20 GB DJ that I've had for 3 years just fine. It plays wma files that the IPOD won't, plus I can buy and download my music from a whole variety of e-tailers, like Napster & Wal-Mart, instead of only being able to buy downloads from ITunes.

Drive+Play by Harmon (I think) is just one option. And yes, the iPod is a truly great invention. It revolutionized the MP3 player market by successfully combining song capacity and true portability. why does an iPod/iTunes keep you from ordering things from other stores? It doesn't. While some of the digital music stores only offer DRM-protected WMA files, which are incompatible with the iPod, it's no coincidence that the two biggest stores (Apple's own iTunes Store and eMusic) both sell iPod compatible files. He basically is a total believer in the whole package NOT soundbytes of artists, he wants to hear everything an artist planned to be heard (even though some cds are way too long he says) and trust me he is a collector of everyones releases. Just a side note about cell Phones, research is coming out that Cell Phones are killing off the BEE population which intern kills plants then us one day. The waves in cell phones and what they give out causes BEES to fall from the sky and die, kind of the reason they dont let u use it on a Plane. Lets see how many People are so serious about enviroment that they would honestly give up their cell phones. Insects are annoying. I hope cellphones kills roaches & ants too. ...it's groovy baby

Now that's the only reason i've ever considered an iPod...plane trips. But after careful consideration, I don't need my whole CD collection with me. So I only load certain playlists on my mini - for me, there's nothing like having close to 900 songs that I like @ my disposal. Put that shit on "shuffle" & it's like the best juke box ever... Gawd, I sound like a commercial But I love that little piece of shit And I used to have a discman & make workout cd's - no need. Just make a playlist for it. My workout never gets boring w/ over 400 songs to choose from . [Edited 4/25/07 22:08pm]

Yeah, another thing is that technology can fail on you. If your Ipod gets damaged or the screen cracks on you, then you're screwed. That is unless you're wiling to shell out some money to get it repaired. I don't see how it's anymore convenient than the discman or the walkman was since an ipod can fuck up on you just as much as the others. How do you put new music onto a cassette these days? I'd take a cassette player over a CD player. I'll never forget seeing this guy on the bus trying to hold on, switch discs in his discman and hold the disc holder. It was a sight to see especially when he ultimately dropped the disc. An iPod or any MP3 player for that matter wins hands down. When traveling I love being able to grab just one small gadget instead of going through my collection to make sure I have all the music I could possibly need.
